Upon returning to Nigeria a few years back, my brother and I lived together for a while.
Our favourite pastime was to whip out the PS4 controllers and play FIFA.
At the start, our gaming sessions were, well, kind of lopsided. I had the upper hand and would defeat him in nearly every game.
These easy victories, oh boy, they felt fantastic!
But you know what? Things began to change.
Our matches became more intense, no longer the easy wins for me. And then, the unexpected happened - my brother started winning.
He had figured out my playing style and learned how to anticipate my moves.
I remember him teasing me, saying my game was too predictable.
And you know what? He was right.
That was my wake-up call. I had to change my strategy, tweak my playing style, and up my game to start winning again.
Sure, it was challenging, but a challenge that was crucial and, to be honest, quite exciting.
There's a deeper meaning hidden beneath this playful anecdote. Lessons that are about more than just a game.
1. When life sends you tumbling, pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and learn from what happened. Every loss, if closely examined, comes packed with a lesson.
2. And remember, being on top can be deceiving. It can blind you to others observing, learning, and preparing to challenge you. To stay in the game, you've got to keep refining your strategies.
But let's not forget the most important thing.
Life's all about wins and losses.
You'll experience both, and that's perfectly fine.
That's the beauty of life's game.
