On this 90th anniversary of the Indian Reorganization Act (IRA), we must acknowledge the Tribal neocolonialism created and fostered by that federal law. As Nick Estes explains, the IRA caused Tribal governments to “a winner-takes-all” system that “turned relatives against each other” and “broke down the family kinship unit that . . . was fundamental to decision making” in Indigenous societies. Tribal neocolonialism has emerged under the IRA, with tribal politicians perpetuating modes of Indigenous kinship destruction pioneered by settlers centuries ago. Per-capita fueled tribal disenrollment and enrollment moratoria, rooted in IRA constitutions, exemplify those assimilative forces. Ninety years later, the IRA requires a genuinely Indigenous response. For example, Alan Parker urged the amendment of IRA constitutions to reestablish citizenship “rules” that “rely on traditional concepts of belonging” and “focus on the goal that there will be future generations.” There is much work to be done.
Ninety years ago, President Franklin Roosevelt signed the Indian Reorganization Act, promoting Tribal self-governance and the revitalization of culture across Indian Country. This piece of legislation reversed Federal Indian policy aimed at assimilation and officially ended allotment. Under the Reorganization Act, Tribal Nations were encouraged to establish their own governmental bodies and ways to govern their members. 🎉 👉https://lnkd.in/em8KmAVN #IndianReorganizationAct #anniversary #NativeAmerican

a review. please remember. one party government is always going to be an autocracy ruled by self absorbed whim. communism is a one party dictatorship that robs & dupes the citizens. democracy is a two party government that allows for simple equally counting vote. simple majority rule for (one) united body and a representation (a congress) that runs on helpful ideas & does great things for humanity). the promise of a democracy is that it guarantees to put the people's welfare health & interests far above their own. to make for a more perfect union. how do we measure up? https://lnkd.in/gQS48k4S

As the debate around Australia Day continues, it's crucial to understand why most Australians firmly believe that the 26th of January must remain our national day of celebration. The movement to change the date is built on a false premise and should thus be rejected. The best way to honour and protect our national holiday against forces of division is to continue celebrating Australia Day on the 26th of January, regardless of political decisions. The councils who cancelled today's celebrations in an attempt to virtue-signal will find that they have done little to dampen the spirit of Australians. Despite the cancellation, most people are celebrating their nation with their families and loved ones. Happy Australia Day! #AustraliaDay #26thJanuary #NationalUnity #OvertonSolutions

Freedom is a complicated thing – But we must always fight to keep it! As we head into the Memorial Day weekend, I am keenly aware of the importance of freedom and the price that many have paid to ensure that freedom stands strong. I was in the Air Force Reserves in the 1970’s and my family and I have had the privilege of leading 150 family retreats and events for active-duty military over the past 12 years. I’m also very clear that freedom can be complicated. I have met with a wife and children of a service member that was lost in action. We have friends whose children served with dignity but could never adapt back in the civilian world. It was not easy for blacks after The Emancipation Proclamation. It was not easy for women after they were given the right to vote. As complicated as the fight for freedom can be at times, we must always fight to keep it. I am always drawn to the Preamble of The Constitution of the United States of America to gain clarity, hope, and focus. “We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union…” It does not say that we are forming a “perfect” union. It says that we are forming a “more perfect union.” We never arrive. There is never a point in time when we have the “perfect” union. Freedom is something that every generation must protect. The fight is always around us and in front of us, and we must be willing to do the things that “let freedom ring!” today and tomorrow. #resilience #workforcedevelopment #hope #theauxinleader

A year ago, at this very moment, I embarked on a challenging yet inspiring journey to become the National Service Personnels Association President for Atiwa East District. The path was laden with trials, but the pursuit was fueled by a dream that resonated deeply with my convictions. Campaigning became more than a routine; it was a compelling narrative of traversing towns, rallying friends, and pooling resources to transform aspirations into reality. The victory we achieved wasn't just a personal triumph; it was a collective testament to the power of unity and shared vision. Navigating the intricacies of leadership, my steadfast team, especially my Vice President, played an instrumental role in delivering on our promises. What stood out was our ability to organize seven distinct and very impactful program despite the absence of financial support from the association. In this transformative journey, a shining beacon emerged in the form of Mr. Boakye, our NSS district coordinator. His unwavering support and guidance became a source of strength, and I extend heartfelt gratitude for his invaluable contribution. Reflecting on this chapter, I am reminded that the most fulfilling journeys are often the ones marked by challenges overcome, friendships forged, and dreams realized. As I redraft the narrative of that pivotal year, I carry with me not just the title of NASPA President but the enduring spirit of resilience and collaboration that defined our collective success.#president #servantleadership #nss #nationalservice #district #voting #elections
