Today is the first day of #Dogust - the perfect month to celebrate your dog and the dogs looking for homes. Additionally, since 2008, August 1st has been designated as the holiday "Dogust", a nationwide celebration for dogs whose birthdays are unknown. This holiday came about when staff at the North Shore Animal League America set out to ensure even dogs without official birthdays still get their own special day. Stay tuned all month as we be share ways community members came together to spoil our resident dogs during their universal birthday month. Pets like Petunia, who has been waiting since January 2023 for her new home, appreciate the extra attention. You can get in on the fun of Dogust by spoiling the dogs in your life with new toys, tasty treats, or taking them on a fun adventure. Please stop breeding these animals just to see them destroyed. It breaks my heart. The most egregious thing is buying puppies in pet stores, online or Craigslist. These almost always come from cruel & abusive puppy mills. Greedy people who do not give even adequate care and just breed until the dog can’t and then abandon or destroy them. The USDA just rubber stamp these breeders & brokers. They often get inbred and face a lifetime of medical care. Please Google “ puppy mills” to learn more. Please share.
