The decision to force employees back to work has been met with plenty of resistance, and employers are now rethinking just how effective RTO mandates actually are for their workforce. Yet deciding where and how to work doesn't have to be so black and white. Finding a balance should be the goal. #RTO #FlexibleWork #HybridWork #EmployeeEngagement #WorkplaceCulture

A recent #FWC decision confirms that a business’s needs outweigh employee's personal reasons for requesting to #WFH… In the matter referenced in the article below, the workplace was able to successfully argue that in that specific case, full remote working was not in the best interests of the business. It is important to ensure that each request is assessed and analysed on its merits, rather than applying a blanket approach. In this case, the issue of the workers performance, and, the business’s desire to ensure face-to-face coaching and support was a key factor. Assessing requests for flexible working arrangements can be complex, especially when complaints or appeals arise as a result of an employee being unsuccessful in their claim. Flexibility continues to reign as the number one employee priority across the four Challenger surveys conducted since Spring 2022. We see this playing out daily. Employees see certain benefits to being at the office some days, but nearly half still said they’d consider leaving their jobs if their employer reduced flexibility. While most employees in most sectors recognize that there are certainly core work tasks that benefit from being in the office together (like team building, face-to-face management, career growth opportunities with upper management), there are also crucial aspects of work that benefit from WFH flexibility (like focus time and time crunch deadlines). The importance of flexibility, then, can’t be overstated. It also highlights the fact that employee input should be taken into consideration when it comes to making decisions for the whole company —you certainly wouldn’t want to lose talent when you could just as easily satisfy all your employees. So how do you rank flexibility on your business’s priority list? #PuzzleHR #TopTrendsInHR #Compliance #EmploymentLaw #Policy #Flexibility #WFH #Talent #Challenger #Stats
