What an honor it was to represent SAFE AND SOUND SCHOOLS and share LESSONS LEARNED from the SANDY HOOK SCHOOL SHOOTING with School Officials and Police Officers at the 2024 SEPLA Conference last week! Special Thanks to Jeanne Rouston & Luke Sawyer and their entire Team for all their hard work to put on the conference. If you're looking for proven, meaningful and easy to implement ideas to give all your people the best opportunity to SAVE LIVES in an Active Killer Incident, then please reach out. S&SS has an amazing cadre of Instructors available to share their expertise. Here's a few comments from last week's evaluations: - Great presentation and phenomenal points. - Best presentation of the conference. - This was a great session for school admin as the scenario is specific to the education setting. I like that the presenter blended other scenarios in his presentation. - Dan was excellent and provided excellent information and ideas. - Good engagement with the class. - Stellar presentation, different approach then just giving us the story of what happened. - Amazing presentation and information. Thank you for bringing Dan. - Excellent presenter. - What a tragic event, but what amazing lessons we can learn. As an educator, this was great information to take back to my school to implement better safety protocols should an active shooter enter our school. - Excellent presenter with new ways to improve response to active shooters. - Everyone needs this, not just SROs. #S&SS #TheRAKacademy #ShavingSeconds #SandyHook #ActiveShooterResponse #SchoolSafety

I was reflecting on last week's National Student Safety & Security Conference in Houston, TX. I always find these conferences to be beneficial because the audience is there to learn and to interact. I'm so used to conferences of thousands of people where the sessions may be informative but you rarely get to sit around and engage with others in the space (including the speakers). In one workshop that I facilitated about the importance of Capturing Accountability Data (related to school safety) Everyday we had a great discussion regarding distilling Policies (big P) into trackable metrics so that you can try to define "success" instead of relying on anecdotal stories. One of the groups started a great process flow list I thought it might be helpful to share. Feel free to add additional items you think might be helpful. #NSSSC2023 #syllabus Bobby Kipper Dan Wold Chris Ellison Dr. Kenneth S. Trump Texas School Safety Center

Are your school or district policies enabling or hindering learner-centered transformation? Devin Vodicka reflects on his journey as superintendent and the power of auditing and engaging in a collaborative process to update district policies. As critical as it is to establish a learner-centered Framework for the Future—vision, mission, values, goals, learning model, and accountability structure—all of it sits on shaky ground if the enabling policies are not there to support it. Learn more about the power of these enabling policies and how you can bring them to life in your school or district: https://hubs.ly/Q02rtlpS0

A great experience today presenting at the Online Safety Digital conference and representing Evergreen School, Warwick. My two key points were: 🌟If something feels unsafe in a real or virtual world experience, we can do something about it. 🌟A multifaceted approach is important, mixing use of online safety discrete teaching, opportunities to link key concepts with students’ day to day experiences and fun, memorable one off sessions. Another chance to risk on purpose, notice those Early Warning Signs yet push through them to continue growing this more confident version of myself. #OnlineSafetyWM #onlinesafety #staysafeonline #safeguarding #ProtectiveBehaviours #newskills #conferencespeaker
