At YWCA,we believe in a world of justice, where all people — particularly women and girls — are safe and free from violence. The violence that erupted this week in the Middle East – including reports of violence committed against civilian women, the elderly, children and babies – leaves no doubt that this vision of justice, safety, and freedom from violence has been shattered for millions. We are particularly concerned for the women and girls who are trapped during this escalating violence. Women and girls living in conflict zones face a greater threat of gender-based violence and are frequently the targets of rape and other sexual violence by armed combatants, in direct violation of internationally recognized human rights standards. YWCA USA condemns any actions that violate essential human rights standards in the strongest possible terms. We call on all engaged in this conflict to ensure that women, children, the most vulnerable and those providing humanitarian aid are protected from threats of violence and violence against them. As we continue to monitor the situation, we remain steadfast in our mission of eliminating racism, empowering all women and promoting peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all.

🕊 Even amidst chaos and conflict, there are rules - guidelines meant to preserve some semblance of humanity. But while these rules may exist, the grim reality is that civilians, innocent bystanders caught in the crossfire, often bear the brunt of the devastation. It's a harsh truth that we cannot afford to ignore. 🌍In the midst of the chaos of warfare, it's easy to forget about those who aren't wielding weapons. Yet, it is these very individuals - mothers, fathers, children, grandparents, neighbors - who suffer the most. They lose their homes, their loved ones, their sense of security. They are the silent victims of conflicts that rage on, far too often ignored by the headlines and overlooked by the world. Let us remember that behind every statistic, every news report, every policy decision, there are real people - with hopes, fears, and dreams just like our own. #CDFR #WarRules #ProtectCivilians #GlobalConflict #HumanitarianCrisis #CivilianRights #WarfareEthics #EndViolence #WorldPeace #TogetherWeCan

Civil War (1861-1865)? The American Civil War (1861-1865) was a defining conflict between the Northern states (Union) and the Southern states (Confederacy) primarily over the issue of slavery. The South seceded from the Union, aiming to preserve states' rights, including the right to own slaves, while the North aimed to preserve the Union and eventually abolish slavery. Key events like the Battle of Fort Sumter in 1861 marked the war's start. The conflict saw significant battles such as Gettysburg and Antietam, with Union victory ensuring the preservation of the nation and the abolition of slavery via the Emancipation Proclamation. The war ended with the surrender of Confederate General Robert E. Lee to Union General Ulysses S. Grant at Appomattox Court House in 1865. The Civil War's aftermath involved Reconstruction efforts to rebuild the nation, address the status of formerly enslaved people, and reintegrate the Southern states into the Union. #csstudenthelp

NEW: According to new research from the European Union, 90% of Jewish Europeans report experiencing anti-Jewish bigotry online and 56% offline, leading more than 3 in 4 to conceal their identity to protect themselves. These startling numbers are a stark reminder of the urgency and necessity of our work to combat Jew-hatred in our online spaces, for a safer, brighter future for all.
