Never thought I'd say this, but... Car sharing is the fastest growing shared mobility mode in Europe 😮 At least that's what you're going to see in our latest European Index (released tomorrow). We all hate private cars. But they are still needed to serve families and groups that need to travel long distances (beyond city boundaries). Car sharing is a crucial part of the solution towards reducing private car use. Our annual report on car sharing in Flanders in 2023 is out! 💪 🤘 some key takeaways 👉 In one year, the number of shared cars has increased by a third: today Flanders has 4,159 shared cars 🚘 (roundtrip, private and free floating) 👉 The geographical distribution has also evolved significantly: three-quarters of Flemish cities and municipalities have at least one shared car. 📶 👉 In 2023, there were 38,347 active users of roundtrip and private car sharing in Flanders, 11% more than last year. Car sharing is rapidly growing, and is a crucial part of the solution towards reducing private car use. Whilst micromobility services are sustainable alternatives for quick commutes and individual journeys, they can't serve families or long journeys beyond city boundaries. Car sharing:  🏁 Reduces the number of privately owned cars in cities, improving cities’ carbon footprint 🌃 Controls congestion and reduces pollution 🚘 Allows people to access a vehicle for short periods of time without the cost of ownership  👥 Shared cars transport more people and are in use 25% of the day, whilst private cars are only traveling 4.3% of the time. Private car maintenance and repair costs are underestimated by almost 50%. A few great insights on how the market is growing. especially interesting to see that the average trips per car in car sharing is 2.6 trips/ day. I think there is more growth as people get more comfortable with the service and it becomes more and more user friendly.
