John McIntosh I know a lot of djs. A few stick out for certain reasons. It might be one thing or another but sometimes it's a vibe, a performance, or a maybe even a show that they produce. I recently read a quote about music that reminded me of an ongoing Battle Of The Beats segment on Sunday nights at 10PM EST on the Mighty WAIF 88.3 FM in Cincinnati, Ohio hosted by John McIntosh. "Music is a universal language that may cut over linguistic and cultural boundaries. It has the power to stir up powerful feelings and provide shared experiences that unite people. Music has a special capacity to unite people, whether it's dancing at a concert or singing along to a favorite song with friends." I don't always have an opportunity to tune in. I sometimes feel like I'm overdosing on beats and rhymes but I appreciate how beats and rhymes don't ever seem to stop. For some of us, they may have started prior to the middle passage and we bring those ancestral drum beats with us wherever we go. Internally. Externally. Something as simple as comparing artists can stir up some emotion. Keeping it going and memories alive, John McIntosh started a Facebook group to honor the late great Tom Knox (whose radio workshops trained and prepared a countless number of people for a career in broadcasting). History can be important and I'm glad that John is preserving a piece of it in honor of Tom Knox, in honor of music, in honor of beats and rhymes. Salute! I seek not to take away from Black History Month. I seek to add positive energy to it. There seems to be a push for inclusion and acceptance, but there is a lot to celebrate and many people's champions all around us. I'll be posting images daily of folks who may have impacted me personally. Everyone may have someone like that. We might not make a movie but we might start a movement. How long will it last? Not the concert… but the Austin music scene… Austin has been known for a long time as a music town. This picture is from the free Saturday night concert at the mall near my house. It’s part of the culture for now. But Austin became less of a town and more of a city… And in the process it’s become harder for the great musical talent to afford to live here. But the world is always changing under our feet. And we need to figure out how to respond. How’s the world changing under your feet? Under your business? Gore will you respond? #leadershipqualities #salesandmarketing #growthstrategy
