Let’s talk about treating the transgender 🏳️⚧️ ⚧️ community with respect and dignity. I firmly believe that every individual merits respect, and it is often in the seemingly small gestures where disrespect can creep in, but can also be easily avoided. Thus, here's how we can demonstrate respect 🫡 towards the trans community: ✅ Introductions should prioritize using names and pronouns without highlighting one's trans identity unnecessarily. ❌There is absolutely no need to always say “meet my trans friend everyone” when introducing your trans friends to others. ✅ Avoid deadnaming, which is using a name a trans person no longer identifies with. If uncertain, politely ask for their preferred name. Deadnaming can be retraumatizing and triggering for trans persons. ✅ Respect preferred pronouns; asking if unsure shows consideration and respect. ❌ Do not use your own discretion to categorize people and decide on their gender identity. #transvisibility #transrights #inclusion #translivesmatter

📣 The 2022 U.S. Trans Survey (early insights) highlights challenges for transgender youth, showing many face mistreatment in schools, from verbal harassment to being denied the right to express their gender identity. This reflects broader societal issues where discrimination persists, even in progressive areas. The hardest part about being trans isn't the identity itself but navigating a world resistant to difference. To be effective allies, individuals can educate themselves on trans issues, use correct pronouns, advocate for trans rights in their communities, and support trans-led organizations financially. It's crucial to listen to and amplify trans voices, challenge transphobia when witnessed, and create inclusive spaces in both personal and professional settings. These actions help combat discrimination and create a more inclusive society, even micro-level. https://ustranssurvey.org/

This week is Transgender Awareness Week 🌈. What do we mean when we say ‘awareness’? It doesn’t have to be on a grand scale, awareness can take many different forms. A few simple ways you can help to do this are: 🔴 Being visable, listening and offering support 🟠 If you don’t understand something, just ask 🟡 Don’t make assumptions 🟢 Respect the terminology a transgender person uses to describe their identity 🔵 At meetings and events, set an inclusive tone 🟣 Most importantly…Be Kind Supporting and ensuring everyone feels safe and included is incredibly important. If we can start with a few minor adjustments and shift people’s perspectives we can become a better trans ally #transgenderawarenessweek #bekind #educateyourself #awarenessmatters

Yesterday marked the end of Transgender Awareness week and today is Trans Day of Remembrance (TDoR) to honour the memory of trans people who have lost their lives in acts of anti-trans violence in the last year. Trans folk experience prejudice, discrimination and violence on a daily basis for simply trying to live their lives. I stand in solidarity with trans liberation. How are you supporting trans people on an interpersonal level, as well as collectively? What can you do to be a better ally? Learn about trans people by educating yourself with credible resources about community, language, issues, stories, and actions. Challenge transphobic behaviour and language where you come across it. Listen and speak to transgender people. Respect people's gender. Support people's choice of bathroom and advocate for gender neutral toilets at work and beyond. #transrightsarehumanrights #transrights
