Our Big Promise: Championing Diversity Beyond Race Equality Week Wrapping up Race Equality Week with Day 5, and what a journey it's been! 🌟 At Agency Connection, we're not just participants; we're passionate advocates for change. Born from the realisation of racial inequality in adoption and fostering, we've been on a mission to make a real difference. 🚀 This week has been a testament to our commitment, working hand-in-hand with organisations across England to ensure every child finds a family that celebrates diversity. 🤝 Today, we're not just celebrating the end of REM Week; we're reaffirming our pledge to stand against racism and micro-aggressions wherever we see them ✨ Our promise goes beyond words: We're committed to enriching children's education with stories and perspectives from all walks of life, continuing our book donations to schools since 2022. 📚 But our journey doesn't stop here. ❓ What is rainbow washing? In many American localities (and digital media), Pride Month is an explosively colorful time of the year. Hosts of Pride flags and rainbow decor seem to appear overnight in preparation for June 1. Businesses are also quick to demonstrate their support for the holiday. Everything from shampoo to tennis shoes gets a month-long repackaging in Pride flag paraphernalia. An outside observer may initially be moved by these outward displays of solidarity with the LGBTQIA community. However, a closer inspection reveals something different. For many organizations, the rainbow packaging is simply a veneer of support used to sidestep responsibility for fostering LGBTQIA inclusion. This “rainbow washing” allows businesses to say they value inclusion without having to address the systemic barriers that stand in the way of that inclusion. In its mildest form, rainbow washing is a marketing ploy that appropriates Pride imagery to sell products without providing tangible support for LGBTQIA individuals. In worse manifestations, businesses may even sell Pride merchandise while actively supporting anti-LGBTQIA organizations. How to avoid rainbow washing: 1. Go beyond meaningless token gestures 2. Donate to and volunteer with pro-LGBTQIA causes 3. Elevate LGBTQIA voices 4. Champion a culture of inclusion and belonging 5. Acknowledge LGBTQIA history (the good and the bad) You can read the full article at this link (paywall): https://lnkd.in/eAMyMSSg.

This post perfectly articulates the need for a shift in focus within the DEI industry. By acknowledging its roots in the Civil Rights Movement and the fight against White supremacy, we can begin to dismantle systemic inequities and work towards true justice and equality. The emphasis on values, history, and collective action is crucial for meaningful change. It's time for DEI efforts to move beyond surface-level engagement and profit-driven motivations to truly address the issues. #antiracist #diversity #inclusion #equity

ICYMI: Gender equality and justice cannot truly be achieved without including and uplifting LGBTIQ people. Likewise, the wider movement for queer liberation must prioritize and support lesbian, bisexual, transgender, intersex, and queer (LBTIQ) women. Centering LBTIQ voices, addressing their unique needs, and allocating more resources toward groups led by and focused on LBTIQ women make gender-focused philanthropic initiatives more inclusive, effective, and impactful and enrich our movements as a whole. Our lives and our rights are intertwined, and our activism and philanthropy must be, too.
Our lives and our rights are intertwined; our activism and #philanthropy must be, too. Read why from our Director of Leadership Giving, Katie Hultquist: https://lnkd.in/enDFf5uy

Here are three questions with Senior Marketing Specialist Sydney Polski, who shows that advocating for DEI can be done in many ways. This is the next post in our series for Women’s History Month, as we highlight Schwegman staff and attorneys who carry out the 2024 theme of “Women Who Advocate for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion” (https://bit.ly/3Taj92K). 1.What pursuits are you involved with, to advocate for DEI? “To advocate for DEI, I am involved in the SLW Academy, the DEI committee's Workweek Challenges, and Women in IP. Through these projects, we lift up voices for marginalized communities and learn how to be better advocates. Through these projects, I myself learn a lot by creating information to help/teach others! Outside of work, I am an advocate for people with mental and physical disabilities as a committee member for Living Well Disability services. I find it important to include this because DEI is not only race, ethnicity, and gender but also ability.” 2. What motivates you to advocate for DEI? “I am motivated to advocate for DEI because I have read a lot about the intricacies and history of inclusion. I want to push DEI initiatives toward a greater understanding of inequity. It is not simply cut and dry; rather, the next step for many DEI initiatives is to consider intersectionalities between race, ethnicity, gender, and class. Each work with each other to develop unique identities that deliver unique perspectives and challenges.” 3. What are some of the things you enjoy about DEI? “I enjoy that DEI uplifts everyone. I find it very empowering that I am able to use my voice for good.” #WomensHistoryMonth #WomensHistoryMonth2024

Julia’s words embody the spirit of resilience and creativity that drives feminist movements worldwide. In 1997, Urgent Action Fund for Feminist Activism was founded when feminist activists around the world called for a new grantmaking model that could provide quick, flexible funding to support their crucial work. Despite some progress, the current funding landscape is still far from adequate to respond to the needs and demands of the feminist movements. Our new 18-minute documentary, The Chorus We Carry, takes a close look at philanthropy and the lack of resourcing available for feminist organizations, movements, and activists. Watch it now and discover how we can shift greater power, resources, and protection to frontline feminist movements fighting for a just and equitable world for us all. https://lnkd.in/eBqWbEVs
