Following on from Inclusion at Work Week last week, I love the practical suggestions provided by the author, Lore Perkins, in this article outlining the actions colleagues took to make them feel safe to bring their whole self to work and ultimately foster an inclusive environment. Such actions included: 1️⃣ Creating a forum for open and honest dialogue, enabling employees to talk about various topics in a supportive space with the backing of senior leaders. 2️⃣ Demonstrating practical allyship, receiving endorsement from direct supervisors to use correct pronouns and educating others about inclusive language practices. 3️⃣ Listening attentively instead of making assumptions, recognizing the uniqueness of each individual's needs. A timely reminder that inclusivity is about acknowledging that every person brings value, diverse perspectives, and expertise to the team, irrespective of their gender identity.

Celebrating Juneteenth Do you know the history of Juneteenth? Juneteenth, celebrated on June 19th, commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States. On this day in 1865, Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas, with the news that the Civil War had ended and the enslaved were now free—over two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed. The US Government adopted Juneteenth as a Federal Holiday in June 2021 and many companies have begun adding this as a paid holiday for team members, believing that understanding and honoring this pivotal moment in history is crucial for fostering a culture of inclusivity and respect in the workplace. There are various, meaningful ways to celebrate Juneteenth, including: •Educational Initiatives: Hosting webinars, workshops, and discussions to educate employees about the history and significance of Juneteenth. •Community Engagement: Partnering with local organizations for community service projects or supporting Black-owned businesses. •Company-wide Reflection: Offering a day off or reduced working hours to allow employees to reflect, participate in local events, or spend time with family and friends. How does your company honor Juneteenth? #Juneteenth #DiversityAndInclusion #HR #WorkplaceCulture #Equality

Happy Friday! If you're someone who finds importance in working with/for companies who aren't just "socially" responsible (TALK about the importance of DEI, sustainability, etc.) but actually walk the walk and put work into incorporating these values within the workplace, you have to check out https://lnkd.in/dEhq7Nmn. A brilliant content creator, Ansa Edim, created the Blacklist as another tool, like Glassdoor, that helps individuals research employer prospects, making sure values are truly aligned. Within the Blacklist, you'll not only find employers to watch out for but also employers who are truly dedicated to creating a safe working environment. Happy hunting :)
