🚀 Inspiring Leadership Insights from Mary Barra, Chairman & CEO of General Motors 🚗 Recently, I had the privilege of watching an insightful interview with Mary Barra, the visionary leader at the helm of General Motors. Her wisdom and candor left a profound impact on me, and I believe her words resonate with anyone striving for success and inclusivity in the workplace. 1️⃣ "Women should stop saying sorry." 🙅♀️ Mary's advice reminds us that we should never apologize for our ideas, aspirations, or ambitions. Confidence in our abilities should drive our actions, and the elimination of unnecessary apologies paves the way for assertive and impactful communication. 2️⃣ "Stop letting men interrupt you." 🗣️ Interrupting can undermine effective communication and stifle the exchange of ideas. Mary encourages us to be vigilant about this issue. Our voices matter, and it's crucial to create environments where everyone can express themselves without interruption, fostering innovation and collaboration. 3️⃣ Mary's advice to men: "Stop making assumptions." ❓ Recognizing that assumptions can lead to misunderstandings and bias, Mary's counsel underscores the importance of listening, learning, and understanding. By actively challenging assumptions, we can foster better communication, teamwork, and gender equality. Mary Barra's leadership exemplifies the power of diversity, equity, and inclusion in the corporate world. She's not only shattered glass ceilings but also paved the way for positive change. Let's heed her valuable advice and continue striving for more inclusive, equal, and effective workplaces. Thank you, Mary Barra, for being an inspiration and advocating for positive change in the business world! 🌟 https://lnkd.in/dZSdxVxs #Leadership #Diversity #Inclusion #Equality #WomenInBusiness #MaryBarra #GeneralMotors #Inspiration #WorkplaceEquality

Judging a book by its cover is plain wrong. But judging candidates based on first impressions is simply unjust. Factors such as neurological diversity, psychological nuance, physical differences, and diverse personal, geographic, and social backgrounds have a significant impact on how people interact with their environment. These elements shape a person's perceptions, emotions, and actions in both their personal and professional lives. Consider that what you first see in a person is just the tip of the iceberg, and recognize that there may be much more beneath the surface: invisible limitations, hidden skills, and unique perspectives. Everything underneath, including their history and abilities, makes a person unique and can greatly enrich a team, making it more productive, innovative, and creative. Let's celebrate diversity - not just today. #GermanDiversityDay #StimmeFuerVielfalt Charta der Vielfalt e.V.
Today is German Diversity Day, initiated 12 years ago by Charta der Vielfalt e.V. - a day to shine a spotlight on diversity and inclusion in organizations. As a proud signatory, we're deeply committed to that pledge. We don't just talk; we take action every day. Human identity is like an iceberg, made up not only of visible features but also of invisible elements such as our backgrounds, attitudes, experiences and beliefs. These facets intersect to make us unique and shape our personality. They also overlap with our physical, psychological, and neurological abilities. Many people from minoritized groups often experience identity-based bias and microaggressions throughout their employment journey - from hiring, to day-to-day work, promotions, and off-boarding. By continuously reviewing our policies and practices, we make sure to stand with our commitment and base them on respect, dignity and a feeling of belonging. It's about creating opportunities for all individuals to thrive and contribute meaningfully. Besides retaining a diverse pool of talent & creativity, we simply believe it's the right thing to do. Our latest employee survey from April 2024 among our GPJ Germany colleagues showed, that 92% consider the diversity of our team as above average, while 77% consider the same for our equity efforts. A testament to our continuous efforts but not the finish line for us. In the coming days, we'll lend our fellow GPJers a platform to share their voices under the motto of this year's German Diversity Day #StimmeFuerVielfalt. #DiversityAndInclusion #GPJCulture #Diversity #StimmeFürVielfalt #ChartaDerVielfalt #DDT24

I recently came across the following article from #newyorktimes discussing the concept of the "glass cliff." It's fascinating how companies, in times of crisis, tend to appoint women to leadership roles, potentially setting them up for failure. The example of Stephanie Pope at Boeing really highlights this phenomenon. I’m fascinated as to why this trend occurs – some believe it could be linked to the perception that women possess the necessary soft skills to navigate challenging situations. However, it's concerning that this pattern is not only limited to the corporate world but extends to other sectors like government, sports, and academia as well. Curious. Have you encountered instances of the glass cliff in your own observations or experiences? If so, I’d love your thoughts. #GlassCliff #Leadership #GenderBias #WomenInLeadership #CorporateCulture #CrisisManagement #DiversityandInclusion #SoftSkills #WorkplaceDynamics #GenderEquality
The term “glass cliff” is a phenomenon in which a company in crisis appoints a woman to turn things around — often setting them up for failure. Some saw Boeing naming Stephanie Pope to run its commercial airplanes division in March as the latest example. Companies say they aren’t consciously doing this. But some researchers think companies in crisis sometimes turn to women because they are perceived as having the soft skills needed to navigate difficult situations. The glass cliff is also prevalent in other countries and outside the corporate world: in government, sports leagues and at universities.

I vividly recall the first day of the four-day tour through the Toyota plant. As we prepared to embark on this tour, a safety video was presented, emphasizing a simple yet profound rule: hold onto the side railing when using the stairs. This rule, without exceptions, transformed ordinary stairs into a symbol of unwavering commitment to safety. Toyota's prioritization of safety was clear. They strived to eliminate accidents, not only to maintain their impeccable safety records but also to avoid financial losses. This experience sparked a powerful realization in me about life's metaphorical 'side railings'. In our professional lives, we often encounter situations where we know the right course of action, yet we remain silent, our voices stifled by the invisible constraints of self-limiting beliefs, cultural conditioning, and deep-seated self-doubt. We clutch these metaphorical railings, shackled by fears of judgment or failure. Yet, if we dare to release our grip, to let go of these self-imposed restraints, our true potential can shine. The fear of being wrong, of overstepping boundaries, or offending others often holds us back, especially prevalent among South Asian women who, due to cultural norms, might shy away from asserting their ideas. However, what many fail to realize is that using their voice in the workplace can be their strongest safety measure. By speaking up, they're not just participating; they're asserting their place, making their presence known, and opening doors to opportunities that would otherwise remain closed. Remember, the path to empowerment begins with a single step - a step away from the safety of silence and into the realm of active participation. Be bold, be brave, and let your voice be heard. If you're struggling to find that courage, I'm here to guide you. Let's connect and transform your journey together. Dr. Mrinalini Garv Helping South Asian women successfully navigate the intersection of cultural norms and personal ambitions.

Empower People with Career Development as a Growth Mantra - Advocate for Diversity, Inclusion and Impact - Connect People
Today, let's celebrate World Cultural Diversity Day ! On that day, I'm reminded of the bridges I've crossed and built along my journey across #cultures. Born and raised in the French countryside with an Italian heritage, I ventured to Sweden where the threads of my personal and professional life intertwined. I'm never as thrilled and energized as when I'm among a culturally diverse community as my work currently allows me at Scania Group Bridging cultures has been a #cornerstone of my life, teaching me invaluable #lessons: - Building Bridges: Just as a #bridge connects two shores, embracing cultural diversity has created #connections beyond borders that I cherish everyday in my professional and my personal spheres. - Collaborating in Diversity: Each culture I've encountered has been a pillar fostering my #understanding of culturally diverse perspectives. I experienced that, together, we are stronger and more resilient. - Navigating Complexity: Navigating cultural complexities requires foremost #curiosity, patience, and an open mind. Nothing comes by default, everything has to be explored and discussed to build a common ground. The book "The Culture Map" by Erin Meyer has been a guiding light for me offering insights that have deepened my self-knowledge as well as fine-tuned my communication and my interactions. Let's continue to build bridges celebrating the diversity brought by each culture 🤩 #CulturalDiversityDay #BridgingCultures #GlobalCommunity #Collaboration #DiverseTeams Find more information about the Cultural Diversity Day in the first comment 👇

This week is at DAF Trucks open and inclusive week and I wanted to address an important topic that is close to my heart - diversity and inclusion in the workplace. 🌍🤝 Diversity, in all its forms, brings a wide range of perspectives, experiences, and ideas to the table. When our work environment fosters inclusivity, it creates a stronger, more dynamic team. 💪🏼✨ Here's why diversity and inclusion are crucial for a successful work floor: 1️⃣ Innovation and Creativity: A diverse workforce brings together individuals with different backgrounds, cultures, and ways of thinking. This leads to a richer pool of ideas and innovative solutions to tackle challenges. 🚀💡 2️⃣ Increased Employee Engagement: When employees feel valued and included, they are more likely to be motivated, engaged, and committed to their work. This boosts productivity and overall job satisfaction. 💼🌟 3️⃣ Broader Perspective: Employing a diverse team ensures a broader understanding of customer needs and market trends. By embracing different viewpoints, we can make better-informed decisions and provide excellent service to our clients. 🌎💼 4️⃣ Enhanced Problem-solving: Different perspectives and experiences enable us to explore problems from various angles, leading to more effective and innovative problem-solving. 💡🧩 5️⃣ Equal Opportunities: An inclusive work environment ensures equal opportunities for everyone, regardless of race, gender, age, or background. It promotes fairness, equality, and social justice within our organization. 👥✊🏼 Let's continue to celebrate our diversity and foster an inclusive work floor where everyone feels valued and respected. Together, we can achieve extraordinary things! 💪🏼🌈 If you have any thoughts or ideas to share on this topic, feel free to discuss them. Your voice matters! 🗣️💬 Thank you for your attention. Have a fantastic day ahead! 🌟😊 #DiversityDay #DEI @DiversityDayNL #prouddaf #wearepaccar
