Tech job seekers, what’s most important to you; The tech stack? Project? Culture? Money? Fair warning; long post & a bit of an indictment on our industry! Hopefully you’ll follow / express your thoughts; Here we go!😊 Recruiters / TA teams constantly post jobs focused on; duties, qualifications, and requirements; There’s no alternative! Job seekers need to know that we’re looking for a; Sr. Engineer, Data Architect, Analyst or a million other job titles / roles. So, once we’ve established that the job is a "baseline fit” for your skills. What’s next? Do you want to hear - · About the organization? · That they’re building a highly profitable / cutting-edge SaaS platform · That the culture & work / life balance is amazing? · Maybe they're building a product that doesn’t make much money but it helps underserved people in your community? · Maybe we should just realize that the culture, mission, and product don't really matter TO YOU so long as the job pays really well! To me~ IT’S ALL IMPORTANT, but, the level of importance / emphasis is different for every person! As a recruiter it’s my job to get to know YOU & your motivators, yet many people don’t want to talk to a recruiter! You want us to send over a job description / not waste your time with an “intake” call and honestly, I CAN NOT BLAME YOU ONE BIT! You’ve been INUNDATED for years with recruiters who’s “pitch” is; Hi - “I’m calling because I have XYZ job, using ABC tech stack” (which probably isn’t even what you do). “It pays ________ and is fully remote, are you interested?” (Theoretically you say yes); So.. The response is: “GREAT! Send me a consent to submit email” (Without saying, so that I can quickly move on to the next candidate, knowing that you’re stuck with me, my crappy service, and my crappy company.) How do I know the recruiter/ service is crappy? Because THIS APPROACH IS NOT RECRUITING! Done right, recruiting should be focused on what’s important to you! Your skills, career goals, and personal interests. The “job pitch” should ALWAYS be honest & accurate but focused on company culture (if interested in culture / work life balance), the money / equity (for people motivated by financial rewards), or on future tech initiatives (for people motivated by staying current / career progression)! We may be discussing the same job but the message is different because we've explored what's important TO YOU! But, candidates have got to give us some time to get to that level of partnership / understanding! I'm not saying "take every recruiter call" because MANY are a waste of time but if the approach “feels right”, spend 5 minutes, if it’s time well spent, spend 5 more, take a 2nd call, if it’s wrong, trust your gut & RUN! Agency recruiters can either recruit the “right way" or recruit the "wrong way" BUT, given current market conditions; the good will thrive, the bad will die, and we'll leave AI to sort out the rest!

A friend asked me how to pitch a software company for recruitment business. He is a headhunting veteran, and I thanked him for the opportunities to share (tidying-up) my portfolios. I started with digital transformation for large corporations, targeting non-tech talents. Two years ago, I focused mainly on Software Tech (Application Development), Data, and AI for start-ups. I learned how Tech helps businesses grow. Now, my expertise extends beyond Software Tech and Data. I also work on IT Infrastructure & Security, Cloud, and Technical Support/Helpdesk positions in public sectors. There are more to discover. Handling the massive JDs (job descriptions) every day has gradually helped me understand different areas of IT. I enjoy each call or meeting with potential candidates. Thank you to those who have taught me little things that helped me catch up on my tech knowledge. Very few of us know exactly what we want to pursue, but everything we do today drives us toward our future goals. Tech has chosen me, and I follow it to unlock higher potential in myself and help you shine. Hello Tech 👋🏻

Talent Acquisition | Résumé Reviews Edits Salary Negotiation Support for 100K-300K Roles | ~10 years in recruitment | samstruan.com for client testimonials
Your LinkedIn headline is one of the MOST important things to get right. My client wasn't getting any InMails. I looked at his headline. Immediately, I knew why. It wasn't optimized for recruiter searches. Searches usually include at least a [title] [industry]. So your headline needs to reflect that search or it will rank low (or not at all). Avoid things like "Looking for a new opportunity" or "Seeking a new position" In a personalized résumé and LinkedIn review, I showed him a 3-step formula and drafted up a new headline. He started getting pitched new job opportunities shortly after. Here's the 3-step formula: [Titles held/Field] [Industries/skills] [Value Statement] Examples: → Recruitment Manager | Talent Acquisition | Healthcare | Tech | ~10 years in recruitment – led teams of up to 5 at global tech companies valued at $1B | 700 hires using Lever ATS → Full-Stack Software Developer | Backend Engineer | SaaS | Javascript | Python | Golang | 8 years developing mobile and web apps and growing startups from $5M-$20M → Human Resources Director | Government | Non-Profit | ADP Workforce | 15 years leading HR for global companies with up to 30,000 employees and $4B in annual revenue Adding a value statement will help you STAND OUT when recruiters are scrolling through hundreds of profiles. Have you optimized your headline?

According to a recent LinkedIn article, the most in-demand hard skills in the job market in 2023 are: 1. Software development 2. SQL 3. Finance 4. Python (this means nothing to me but I believe it's a programming language 🤯) 5. Java 6. Data analysis 7. JavaScript 8. Cloud computing 9. Operations management 10. Customer relationship management Good news if you're a Software Developer, but very tricky if you're trying to hire in this field, as the good old 'war for talent' rages on 😵 The volume of vacant roles continues to rise in the UK with stats 📈 showing current job postings at over 2 Million; that's up from 1 Million in January 2022 making the recruitment market more competitive than ever for hiring businesses. So what does this tell us? Well, if you're planning on recruiting then the competition for skilled people is more fierce than ever before, so streamlining your recruitment process and not losing good applicants along the way is vital - don't dilly dally! Equally, having a compelling recruitment brand - really marketing your business to applicants and getting across the culture of your organisation to potential joiners will set you apart from other more generic cut-copy-paste job adverts that candidates will undoubtedly, scroll past. These are real snapshots of what we got when we hit the "apply now" on some popular online job platforms. 👀 How frustrating is it to take the time to read through dozens of job posts to finally find what you have been looking for then....instantly be deflated when this appears! SaaSquatch: A Software Focused Community never scrapes other job platforms for their jobs. We also confirm with our organizational partners to verify that the job posts are still open and active. #jobs #candidates #hiring #career #careergrowth #saas #software #tech #techjobs #softwarejobs
