What if we could take 128,000 cars off the road for a year? The B.C. Indigenous Clean Energy Initiative has achieved that effect – and more: ✔️ generated enough clean energy to power over 3,600 homes ✔️ reduced diesel usage by 2.8 million litres annually ✔️ created almost 1,400 jobs Wade Grant of New Relationship Trust explains how:

CCUS News 🌟 Carbon capture, usage, and storage (CCUS) “is a necessity, not an option, for the transition to Net Zero”. The Government is supporting many CCUS “Clusters” which will include a network of pipelines to transport captured carbon dioxide to deep sea storage. This provides an undeniably great opportunity for industries in these clusters to decarbonise. But what about those industries not located within or near to a cluster? What are their options to decarbonise through CCUS if there is not way of transporting the captured carbon dioxide via pipeline? In answer to this, the Government has set out a “Call for Evidence” on “Non-Pipeline Transport” (NPT) of CCUS. NPT will allow for the deployment of CCUS in areas where a pipeline is not available or feasible. This will be very important as (according to this report) c.half of the industrial emissions are outside of the industrial clusters, including other industries such as residual waste management. NPT options could include road, rail, barge, and/or shipping. This is an important step towards achieving Net Zero… #netnero #carboncapture

On New Years' Day, the Port of Virginia became the first seaport on the U.S. East Coast (and one of a handful in the world) to run all of its operations on 100 percent clean power. The port had planned to arrive at this landmark by 2032, but it has achieved its goal early. The switch nearly cuts #carbonemissions per container move in half. The savings are in both Scope 1 (direct onsite emissions from equipment) and Scope 2 (#supplychain #emissions from #power generation). #shipping #decarbonization #energytransition #ports https://lnkd.in/drncV7Pg

As fleets across the U.S. transition to zero-emission vehicles to meet emissions reduction goals, it's crucial for state regulators and utilities to work together to ensure sufficient grid capacity 🔌 2023 was a banner year for electric trucks 📈 an Environmental Defense Fund analysis found more than 10,000 hit U.S. roads — up 5X from 2022 — and many more are on the way. Powering this new wave of transport requires careful planning. This is why proactive investments by state regulators and utilities are key to expand grid capabilities get ahead of the coming load growth. Our new report details 10 recommendations for how lawmakers, regulators and utilities can work together to expand the grid, while minimizing risk and total cost to ratepayers.
