So, a recent Forbes report that says the Certified ScrumMaster (CSM) is the 3rd highest paying certification for remote jobs. It's pretty cool to see this cert I teach is getting recognition, but I think we need to be careful about how we approach it. If someone wants to be a Scrum Master just because of the high pay, I'd be a bit worried about whether they're the right fit for the job. When I first started as a Scrum Master, it wasn't even a separate role—it was just something you did as part of the team. I did it because I truly believed in the work and the difference it could make. Don't get me wrong, getting paid well is great, but this role needs people who are in it for more than just the money. Also, even though the pay might be high, there aren't as many Scrum Master jobs out there right now, and a lot of Scrum Masters are getting laid off. These reports don't always talk about that. I think it's because a lot of Scrum Masters don't really know how to do the job (a two-day cert is just scratching the surface), companies don't always let Scrum Masters do what they're supposed to do, and Scrum Masters don't always show how valuable they are (maybe because of the whole Servant-Leader humility thing). So, if you want to be a Scrum Master, do it because you're passionate about it. It can be an incredible job. But remember, the certification is just the beginning. There's a lot more to learn and experience before you can be really good at it. And there's a lot of competition for these jobs, so you need to find ways to stand out. The CSM alone won't cut it in the end. Anyone who tells you different might be trying to sell you something. What do you all think? This is the last possible step for me in Scrum Master certification path (Certified Scrum Professional®-ScrumMaster from Scrum Alliance) and I am happy I did it. In general, I have mixed feelings about Scrum certifications. I feel like hiring companies pay too much attention to them (read any Scrum Master job position and you will see the requirement of Scrum certification there). But I do not think that Scrum Master certification is a good reflection of a person's understanding of a Scrum Master role and Agile way of working (there is so much more than knowledge you receive at the certification courses). Anyway, for me it was another way of learning something new so I am thankful to Digital Charging Solutions for supporting employees in professional development.
