Representation matters so much. As a BIPOC woman navigating my way through my career something I have learned is that when there is a lack of representation at the top it's for an array of reasons. Here are the two that have stuck with me: 1. Obtaining a leadership role as a BIPOC individual is going to be increasing difficult at this company: Whether it's the supervisors, the hiring managers, the coworkers, etc some how the application and interview process becomes heavier for BIPOC applicants. 2. BIPOC leaders are being pushed out of these roles: Some places have had BIPOC leaders but somewhere along the way their position becomes avaiable yet again. Representation matters. If I don't see people of look like me in leadership roles that leads me to believe that the company is not supportive of the advancements and success of their BIPOC employees and therefore it is not a place I need to work. I want to work for an organization that will support my growth in my career and encourage me to be the best leader I can possibly be. How can I see this before I start? I’ve been part of this statistic and it is very real. 💡 The lack of racially diverse leadership begins with lack of diverse hiring and coaching. Employees of color have lived marginalized professional careers and many are not versed or prepared for leadership roles even when completely qualified for the job. 🤎 Let’s change the narrative, the responsibility to change it is in the ability for leadership to create safe spaces for racially diverse talent. 👌🏼 #whenWeKnowWeDoBetter #diverseleadership #wherearetheblackandbrownleaders #representationmatters
