Call for Papers: Games For Impact minitrack at HICSS 2025 is calling for submissions Games are destined to serve for many great things toward the betterment of our society. For some, games are empathy engines and they allow/encourage us to experience those lives that are not ours per se, for others they are fantastic teaching and learning tools, tools for awareness, habit building or therapeutics that have not been fully discovered yet. In our attempt of solving the wicked problems of our society and our world, how could games be of service and how could they contribute to social innovation? Yes! Gamifying lessons and course work will definitely help in the classroom. Not only is it fun but it will get your students to be more engaged. We did two experiments with this same concept. 1. I led my team and in creating an Augmented Reality game that you can play on mobile. We created Avatars and brainstormed on the environment. We chose a case study that focused on difficult conversations in the workplace. I even go tot write the script for the dialogue between characters! It was a choose your own adventure game that can lead you to one of three endings. We found that people were more likely to remember the lessons during game play rather than watching the lessons played out on video. 2. We tested this again on a live stream with The Sims, where our host played The Sims4 and gave out work lessons while her sim was going through certain obstacles like applying for the job, asking for a raise, and bringing up boundaries with her coworkers. I got to work on post production for this project. We noticed that people were more interested in the lessons during this game play because it was relatable, fun to watch someone else go through it, and it was something they could play themselves. 10/10 recommend!
