As a biologist I have always believed in the concept of #biomimicry, so it was a real please to meet Amanda Sturgeon, FAIA CEO of Biomimicry Institute today and learn more about their AskNature platform. "AskNature is a field guide to the natural world, designed to draw your eye to what we can learn from nature (not just what we can learn about it)." AskNature has an incredible database of natural solutions and approaches, organised by collections such as 'Energy in Nature' and 'How Does Nature Prevent Structural Failure?' At Søren Jensen we have on behalf of far-sighted clients and ourselves been engaging ourselves in understanding the current trajectory of the built environment. We have come to believe that with time we’ll slowly (too slowly) but surely transition from a degenerative paradigm to initially a sustainable one, and then towards a regenerative paradigm. The work has been inspired by many many well known thinkers and we are greatful for the possibility to contribute our bit. Hanne Tine Ring Hansen, Frank Jensen, Kasper Lynge Jensen, and Ida Fur has publiched our work in the IOP Publishing Conference Series: Earth and Environmental Science. The article can be found here: https://lnkd.in/diH-fecg Abstract This paper presents a regenerative design philosophy and a design paradigm for the built environment including 12 indicators of regenerative building design developed by Søren Jensen. The regenerative design paradigm was developed to address the challenge of designing liveable and healthy built environments whilst reestablishing planetary health. The design paradigm is based on a literature study of different discourses and methodologies relating to regenerative thinking, presentations from and interviews with researchers and specialists as well as case-studies of reference projects. The design paradigm aims to give back more than it takes of planetary resources whilst providing a living environment that promotes a healthy and happy life within and between buildings. Inspired by the #FutureFit methodology the design paradigm identifies break-even and positive pursuit goals for planetary and people health in the built environment.

Biomimicry is a design philosophy based on the observation of living organisms that encourages the imitation of natural systems and structures in human creations. This is done through the mimicking of natural forms and shapes, including natural processes and entire ecosystems. The concept of a circular economy is an example of biomimicry, in which the economy mimics nature’s cyclical model of renewal and reuse. A very cool technology - For those “Hard to Reach” places - This technology can plant trees in areas currently hard to get to.   Our world can be carbon neutral in 20 years if we choose to do it by growing forests. Plant fruit trees, apple trees, nut trees- trees that produce food.                                            Plant Pine trees, Fir trees, Hardwood trees- trees that produce building materials.          Plant Red woods, Long-leaf pine, Cypress- trees to restore habitat.     All will remove and sequester great volumes of Co2.  Building with that wood can keep that Co2 sequestered for generations. Easier, Quicker. And Cheaper to reduce Co2 inventories in our atmosphere- How about keeping your cars? How about using electricity and natural gas as needed? How about putting in place a Co2 reduction program that allows future generations to thrive?
