Writer Julie Yip-Williams, who wrote and spoke movingly of her struggle with cancer before she died in 2018 at age 42, told her two young daughters, "You will be deprived of a mother. As your mother, I wish I could protect you from the pain. But also as your mother, I want you to feel the pain, and then learn from it. Be stronger people because of it, for you will know that you carry my strength within you. Be more compassionate people because of it. … Rejoice in life; live with special zest and zeal for me." For all lucky enough to celebrate this #MothersDay with their mother, we wish you joy. For all who are missing your mother, we wish you space to grieve and heal.

Cancer or trauma can be devastating, but they can also teach us valuable lessons. They can help us appreciate the preciousness of life, the beauty of nature, and the kindness of others. They can inspire us to be more grateful, compassionate, and resilient. They can remind us that we are not alone and that we have the power to overcome any challenge. Let’s cope with gratitude and appreciation, and turn our pain into purpose. But how do you cope with the gratitude and appreciation of cancer or trauma? How do you express them in a healthy and meaningful way? How do you balance them with the negative emotions that may still linger? https://lnkd.in/ggRnC4fz

The Power of Empathy: A Simple Hug Can Change Lives “Can I give you a hug?” Last week, a patient came in for a routine injection. As I prepared to leave the room after the procedure, she blocked the door, handed me a gift, and began to cry. She recounted how, six months ago, I had given her a hug after she shared the news of her husband's cancer diagnosis. She requested another hug to express her gratitude. Surprisingly, I had no recollection of that hug; my notes only mentioned the basic injection. Yet, she insisted that that brief moment of compassion had profoundly altered her outlook on her husband's cancer. She felt loved and supported, a testament to the goodness in society. I spent the next 20 minutes in the room, listening to her life story and the struggles she and her husband had faced. She expressed feeling isolated with her husband in their journey, and how knowing there are caring people in the world was an invaluable reminder of external compassion. The moral here is simple yet profound: always be kind and take an extra moment. A moment of care, a simple hug, can mean the world to someone else. Let's always remember to be humane, recognizing the deep need for care and connection in others. #EmpathyInHealthcare #PowerOfKindness #PatientCare #HumanConnection #MedicalProfession #CompassionateCare #HealthcareHeroes #LifeChangingMoments #TheHealingTouch #SupportInHealthcare

In a world where success is often measured by tangible achievements, it's easy to overlook the battles waged silently, the ones fought not on battlegrounds, but within the confines of hospital rooms and homes. For those diagnosed with cancer, every day is a battle against an invisible enemy. It's a journey marked by physical pain, emotional turmoil, and a relentless fight for survival. Behind every brave face lies a story of resilience, courage, and unwavering determination. But the impact of cancer extends far beyond the individual diagnosed. Families bear the weight of uncertainty, fear, and the heart-wrenching reality of watching a loved one suffer. Their sacrifices often go unnoticed, yet they are the unsung heroes providing unwavering support and love. Amidst the pain and despair, there is also hope. The journey through cancer is not one traveled alone. It's a journey marked by the unbreakable bonds of love, the compassion of caregivers, and the support of communities coming together in solidarity. #CancerAwareness #StrengthInStruggle #Hope #Resilience #FamilySupport #Courage #NeverGiveUp #TogetherWeFight

Early detection is important. Know your numbers ... not only in business - but in your own life.
My family celebrate what would have been my sister Katrina Cunnane’s 38th birthday today. ‘Trina left us aged 35, having fought cancer with every ounce of energy she had for several years. Katrina took every opportunity to get the message out, and now on her behalf I try to do the same. If you’ve avoided following up on a cancer or health screening, use today to book it. Ask the people close to you if they’re up to date. It’s uncomfortable, but it’s worthwhile. A fighter through to her very last day on earth, a joker throughout the darkest of times, a beautiful and caring sister, auntie, daughter and friend. ‘Trina, what I wouldn’t give to spend today with you. All my love xo.

💙 Supporting Loved Ones with Cancer 💙 During the holiday season and beyond, it's crucial to be there for our friends and family who are battling cancer. Here are a few ways you can show your love and support: 1️⃣ Listening and Empathy: Sometimes, all it takes is lending an ear and providing a safe space for them to express their feelings. Let them know you're there to listen without judgment. 2️⃣ Acts of Kindness: Small gestures can make a big difference. Offer to help with daily chores, cook a meal, or run errands. These acts of kindness can alleviate some of the burdens they may be facing. 3️⃣ Quality Time: Spending quality time together can bring immense joy and comfort. Plan activities that they enjoy or create new cherished memories together. It's the perfect opportunity to laugh, relax, and create moments of happiness. 4️⃣ Thoughtful Gestures: Show your support through thoughtful gestures. Send a heartfelt card, a care package filled with their favorite things, or surprise them with a small gift that brings them comfort or joy. 5️⃣ Educate Yourself: Take the time to educate yourself about their specific type of cancer. Understanding their condition can help you better support them and provide informed advice if they seek it. Remember, everyone's journey is unique, so be open, flexible, and understanding. Your presence and support can make a world of difference for someone battling cancer. “In this family, NO ONE fights alone!” #cancerawareness #support #empathy #officers #lawenforcement

Perseverance & Emapathy... In moments of personal loss, empathy and understanding can feel like distant ideals. After the devastating loss of my son Kristopher, navigating the depths of grief challenged me to find empathy and understanding for others. It's a journey marked by profound pain and moments of grace, where I learned to hold space for the experiences of others while honoring my own. This challenge has taught me that empathy isn't just about understanding someone else's pain; it's about embracing the complexities of the human experience with compassion and kindness. Through this ongoing journey, I've discovered that true empathy begins with the courage to open our hearts, even in the face of our own struggles. 💔🌟 #EmpathyAndPerseverance #GriefAndGrowth #CompassionateLeadership #KristophersVillage Learn more about how you can help in the fight against childhood cancer at kristophersvillage.com
