The ISEA (Innovation Science for Education Analytics) program's Hackweek is here. Calling all educational research organizations, educational agencies, or EdTech companies to offer real-world challenges and questions to our amazing fellows. Why should you be part of the Summer Hackweek projects? The Hackweek brings together ISEA fellows and faculty members to use data analytics, software design and development, and research skills to tackle real-world educational issues. Within one week and working full-time as teams, fellows will complete or make significant progress on the sponsors’ projects under the sponsors’ guidance and the faculty’s support. For projects that cannot be completed within the Hackweek time, they will continue to work on them after the Hackweek. Products and findings will be presented at the Fall Virtual conference. Their participation in sponsors’ project will be free of charge to sponsors, unless that the propsoed scope of the work exceeds significantly beyond the original Hackweek’s design and needs substantial more time and efforts from the fellows. Happy Leap Month! As we enjoy one extra day and one more hour of light, let's take a moment to celebrate the power of collaboration in scholarly pursuits. In the past month, I had the pleasure of working with esteemed colleagues from AMA and ACS on a webinar discussing strategies for making eLearning an integral part of a publishing program. I also moderated a session for NISO Plus on "Open Scholarship and Bibliodiversity", featuring six amazing panelists from across cultures and the globe. Additionally, I presented an update on the Manuscript Exchange Common Approach NISO Recommended Practice, a pioneering protocol for sharing manuscripts. Finally, I assisted with a three-part workshop on Peer Review Innovations at the Researcher to Reader conference. Stay tuned for an upcoming blog post, where I'll delve deeper into these last three collaborations! In addition to these collaborations, I'd like to share a few noteworthy items that are sure to pique the interest of researchers and industry experts alike. Check out a mainstream podcast featuring interviews with Brian Nosek from the Center for Open Science and Ivan Oransky of Retraction Watch, where they discuss ways to combat academic fraud. Ithaka S R recently published a report on the digital transformation of scholarly publishing. There are also a couple of articles on open science, one covering the state of open peer review at PLOS and the other an OSF preprint reporting on the takeover of open access by commercial interests. CABI Digital Library has developed a new "Rxiv" for storing and sharing search strategies, which uses PIDs in a cool way. And, for those interested in AI, I recently read a long list of articles that I've grouped under the header AYE YAI YAI. Hey everyone, what makes today special? It marks three incredible months of my journey with Google Summer of Code, an opportunity that has truly been amazing! My GSoC Journey So Far: 📄 I’ve read and implemented over 20 research papers. Research isn't just about discoveries; it’s also about re-exploring and improving existing knowledge. 🎥 Developed a real-time forest fire management system that provides critical insights to forest fire rangers. We're now gearing up for Version 4.0! 🔥Integrated various YOLO, D2Go OBB models and methods to calculate the growth, direction, and speed of fire spread, enhancing the fire management capabilities. What Fueled My Success? Arghya Kusum Das, Yali wang, and Debjit Konar have been phenomenal, giving me the freedom to explore and innovate with no hard time constraints. Despite their vast experience, they always value and listen to my ideas. Working alongside a Professor, PhD, and Master's student has been an enriching experience, where every opinion matters. 🎉 A Moment of Pride: Today, on my birthday, I paid my college fee for the year using my GSoC stipend. It feels incredible and I’m sure many students can relate to this milestone! 💡 A Piece of Advice: I know the struggle of working hard without immediate results. Don’t be disheartened by your surroundings; the universe has unique plans for you. I had a great time at the Computing Student Employability Conference today! Here are five key takeaways for myself as an international student: 1. MQ Incubator: If you’re keen on startups, check out the MQ Incubator. It’s a hub for learning, networking, and kickstarting your career in the startup ecosystem. 2. Free IELTS Preparation: There’s free IELTS prep available for students in their final year or within 12 months post-graduation—a valuable resource for international students. 3. Networking’s Impact: An impressive 90% of international students land jobs through networking. It’s crucial for achieving career goals. 4. Value of Certifications: Certificates might not be mandatory, but having a couple of professional certifications can be a plus if you believe they’ll aid in your job hunt. 5. GLP for Your Resume: Consider participating in the Global Leadership Program (GLP). It’s free, enhances your resume, and registration is open all year.

Thrilled to have achieved my degree in Computer Science!! After many years of dedicated studying, I am stoked about the next step in my life's journey, particularly as I transition into the tech industry with the foundational knowledge acquired from SFSU.

🚀 Exciting Quantum Journey Update! 🚀 Reflecting on the "End of Semester Survey," I can't help but marvel at the quantum leaps (pun intended!) in my understanding. The same questions that once confounded me in the first week are now crystal clear after 11 lectures and labs, thanks to the incredible guidance of the The Coding School team. Choosing the right answers initially was a challenge, but now, I not only understand the questions but also confidently know why I selected each option. Kudos to the QxQ team for making quantum concepts not only comprehensible but genuinely enjoyable. Let's delve into a snippet of what I've learned about superposition and measurement. Superposition, a core quantum feature, allows a qubit to exist in multiple states simultaneously. Measurement, on the other hand, reveals the qubit's specific state, eliminating the superposition. So, why did I choose the second option? Measurement forces the qubit to select one state, and the second option aligns perfectly with this principle. What about the other options? The first option, 'qubit becomes entangled,' doesn't apply as measurement only forces a state choice. The third, 'qubit always returns the same state,' is impossible in real-life scenarios. Lastly, the fourth, 'qubit becomes superposition,' contradicts the measurement principle.
