This #WorldEnvironmentDay, we received a gift from EcoVadis… 👀 … a bronze sustainability rating! 🥳 That means, in terms of environmental impact and sustainability, we’re in the top 35% of all companies rated by EcoVadis in the last twelve months. We’re really pleased that our sustainability efforts are being recognized, and even more motivated to keep working on the goals we’ve set for ourselves, including: 🌱 50% product packaging made from recycled materials by the end of 2024 ♻️ 50% recycled materials in our products by the end of 2025 ☀️ 100% renewable or green energy sources for our administrative workstations by the end of 2028 We’re content with bronze but striving for gold—so let’s maintain this momentum and make a real difference together! 👊 #WeSupportSolar #SolarPower #Sustainability P.S. We are honoured to have been named one of the 100 most sustainable companies in the world by TIME Magazine! The rankings, which were released this week by the American news magazine and Statista, surveyed over 5,000 of the world’s largest and most influential companies. Each was evaluated on criteria that included external sustainability ratings, adherence to the UN Global Compact and alignment with the Science Based Targets initiative. As a part of our Better Places plan, URW has pledged to reach carbon neutrality on scopes 1 & 2 by 2030, and across all scopes by 2050, including achieving -90% GHG emission reduction on scopes 1 & 2 by 2030, and -90% on scopes 1, 2 & 3 by 2050. Other targets include implementing renaturation projects on 100% of our assets, recycling 70% of our waste and reducing water consumption intensity by 20%, all three by 2030 (vs. 2019). A huge thank you to TIME Magazine and Statista for launching this initiative and providing a clear benchmark for us and other companies to continue our environmental transition. 🚨 It's out 🚨 You are interested in sustainable resource management, trade issues, critical raw materials and circular economy solutions? This report is for you ! With nations increasingly investing in their domestic capacities to safeguard their strategic autonomy to produce key technologies for the green transition, the global demand for critical raw materials (CRMs) to produce these technologies is skyrocketing. this report highlights how the uptake of circular economy strategies can contribute to the EU’s strategic autonomy agenda while being compatible with the Paris Agreement and the SDGs. This report also reflects on the EU’s overall material footprint in the context of global equities as the Union transitions to a climate-neutral and circular economy. Its main recommendations? sure thing: ▶ Address gaps in the Strategic Project and Partnership approaches to ensure mutually beneficial economic and environmental outcomes for both Parties (high ESG standards, circularity and add value towards global green industrialisation). ▶ Tackle circularity gaps in the general approach to managing CRMs by ensuring policy coherence between the ECRMA, ESPR, EU Batteries Regulation, Waste Framework Directive, and the Waste Shipment Regulation. ▶ Encourage the uptake of the 9Rs circular economy strategies in CRM relevant sectors and products. ▶ Contribute to closing the circular divide by pursuing multilateral cooperation efforts, including financing and capacity building. As both demand for CRMs and the application of circular economy strategies increase, the Global North will inevitably accumulate CRMs originally extracted in the Global South. ▶ Evaluate overall material footprint levels and benefits of a long-term strategy for sustainable resource management as a solution to the triple planetary crises of climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution. Huge congratulations to the stellar team at Institute for European Environmental Policy (IEEP) behind this research: Eline Blot, Emma Watkins, Emma Bergeling and Elena Marchetti ! A huge thanks to our partners at Sitra who supported us for the development of this work: Eero Jalava, Tim Forslund and Lasse Miettinen !
