Children are naturally curious, so it's crucial for us as caretakers to create a safe environment free from harmful agents. Burns often happen when we're least careful. In rural areas, kids can get burned when parents leave hot objects such as a burning firewood within their reach. In urban areas, agents such as electricity and water boilers pose similar risks for child burns. Burn injuries affect children beyond just physical pain; it can lead to serious emotional and psychological problems such as depression and low self-esteem. It fosters a supportive environment where everyone feels valued and included. > Human Connection and Fulfillment: Engaging with those in need—whether through food distribution or companionship—creates meaningful connections. These interactions offer a sense of purpose and fulfillment. ⭐ Program Spotlight: Drowning Prevention ⭐ Bangladesh has one of the highest drowning rates in the world among children under five, with 30 children dying every day. Child drowning is largely preventable, but many people are unaware and vulnerable communities are more at risk. Studies show that most of these drownings occur in small bodies of water near homes during the hours when children are unsupervised. Bloomberg Philanthropies worked with civil society organizations, including the Centre for Injury Prevention and Research, Bangladesh (CIPRB) to develop and fund a comprehensive childcare model, which has proven to be an effective solution and reduces drowning by more than 80 percent.   The Global Health Advocacy Incubator led efforts to bring awareness to this neglected issue, humanize the issue and amplify community voices to build demand for the childcare centers and build support for demand for the government to fund a national prevention program. As part of our program, we trained more than 100 spokespeople, including family members of drowning victims and beneficiaries of the childcare centers, which humanized the issue, creating strong emotional connections with audiences and contributed to generating media coverage that ultimately increased demand for the Bangladesh government to fund the program. What I witnessed in Baghlan is beyond words. Families lost loved ones, swept away by the flash floods, and their livestock and homes were destroyed. The green lands were transformed into a rocky, sandy, dried-up riverbed. The trauma and loss these communities have experienced are profound and will take a long time to heal. Our interventions are crucial in helping these communities navigate through these hard times. Thanks to our emergency response staffs for their commitment and dedicated services under very hard conditions, these families, severely affected by this natural disaster, have received essential assistance. However, more support is needed. It is imperative for stakeholders to provide increased support for climate-resilient infrastructure and natural risk reduction programs to prevent such devastation in the future. #AfghanistanFloods #SCI
