- Expanding FDOT Pavement Evaluations Statewide! - We are ramping up our Florida Department of Transportation Pavement Evaluations, encompassing over 300 pavement core locations statewide. Notably, this effort features an extensive analysis of SR 776 in Sarasota County. Pavement Evaluations play a pivotal role in enhancing our infrastructure knowledge. By meticulously analyzing the alignment of travel lanes and side streets, we gain a comprehensive understanding of the existing conditions. This strategic approach empowers the FDOT to prioritize projects effectively and allocate resources where they are needed the most. The significance of Pavement Evaluations cannot be understated. 🚧 District 19 Road Updates from the Department of Highways (DOH) 🚧 As part of my duties, I've been tasked with keeping you informed about the updates on various road projects within our 19th district. While I'm still awaiting information on some other concerns, here's what I have for you at the moment. Please note, these updates do not include issues that have already been resolved. 1) Pumpkin Vine: Good news! The stabilization of Pumpkin Vine is on schedule for the first week of July. However, we're working to expedite the process for some spot ditching and stabilization, possibly moving it up sooner. 2) Cross Creek: Patching for Cross Creek is slated for the week of April 8th. 3) WV 62 Ditching: Ditching operations are planned for the month of June along WV 62, including the Bancroft area near the post office. 4) 18 Mile Creek and Turkey Branch: In areas where the roadway has slid into the creek, plans are underway to stabilize the shoulder using shot rock later this year, preferably in late summer when conditions are dry. Please note that obtaining permits for work involving water can be time-consuming. 5) Teays Valley Road Passing Lanes: Unfortunately, passing lanes on Teays Valley Road have been omitted due to safety concerns raised by traffic engineering. The request for re-striping was submitted on April 1st. 6) Hanshaw Curve Guardrail: Following multiple accidents and concerns for resident safety, I've submitted a second request for a guardrail to be installed at Hanshaw Curve. We're awaiting feedback on this matter. Rest assured, as I receive more information on the remaining concerns and issues, I'll ensure to keep you updated promptly. A segment of S.D. Highway 248 in Lyman County will be temporarily closed on Thursday, May 16, 2024, and Friday, May 17, 2024, to install a new pipe culvert. The pipe culvert is located on Highway 248 approximately one and one-half miles west of the S.D Highway 47 junction at Reliance. The closure will be placed from the Highway 47 junction west to the town of Lyman. During this two-day closure, the public is asked to use a detour route on Interstate 90 from exit 248 to exit 241. Local traffic will be allowed access on this segment during the closure. However, a diversion around the pipe repair will not be installed. Local traffic will not be able to pass through the closure point where the new pipe culvert is being installed. The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) plans safety improvements for a one-mile stretch of Wade Hampton Boulevard in Greenville County, targeting vehicular and pedestrian safety between East Lee Road and Watson Road. A road safety assessment found 311 crashes from 2018 to 2022. Proposed changes include concrete medians to reduce angle collisions, upgraded signal equipment at four intersections, new sidewalks, ADA-compliant ramps, crosswalks, and countdown signals. The $2.1 million project will start property negotiations in fall 2025, with construction beginning in fall 2026 and taking about a year. The orange and white lines you've seen on the freeway are part of a "Caltrans pilot program" in Southern California. Let me explain what they mean: 1. Purpose: These contrasting orange and white lane stripings are designed to increase awareness of construction zonesand enhance safety for both drivers and road crews. They serve as a visual cue to remind motorists that they are entering a construction area and should proceed with caution while crews work around them. 2. Where: The pilot program began last year on the "5 Freeway in northern San Diego County" as part of the "Build North County Corridor Project". This project aims to add carpool/High-Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes in both directions of the freeway between "Highway 78 in Oceanside and Lomas Santa Fe Drive in Solana Beach". This area is prone to heavy traffic backups. 3. Effectiveness: According to recent survey data, approximately 83.18%of road users who traveled in the orange striping experienced increased awareness of being in a construction zone. Additionally, 72% of drivers slowed down after seeing the contrast striping, and nearly 75% found the lines easier to see at night. 4. Future Implementation: The pilot program will continue through the completion of the North County construction project, which is expected sometime in 2025. After that, Caltrans aims to implement this as a standard practice throughout the state. So, those orange and white lines are there to keep everyone safe and informed during construction!. 😊 ,

The $1.6 billion State Highway 183 reconstruction in Texas faced unexpected hurdles, including a crucial grade change for drainage correction. The Operations Manager at Cheyenne Construction had revealed a surprise road elevation of up to four inches after utility manholes were already in place. Cheyenne Construction's solution? Enter American Highway Products Pivoted Turnbuckle Manhole Risers. The Texas Department of Transportation approved the grade match, enhancing project safety and efficacy. Incorporating adaptability, the risers were custom-sized and stackable for varying pavement thicknesses, allowing for over 550 of our risers to be seamlessly integrated. As their team confirmed, "They're heavy duty ribbed steel. They're not going anywhere."
