Why doesn’t STAT cover advocacy days? “[S]uch occasions are not news. Fundamentally, these days/weeks/months are about marketing,” Torie Bosch explains in today’s newsletter. The most important question I’d start with as a reporter, and the one I counsel my clients to consider, isn’t “what is it.” It’s “how is it different.” If something is different, you have a chance at a solid earned media news pitch. If not, that’s ok! Other channels like your blog or a social campaign may be even more effective at meeting certain goals. You haven’t failed if you don’t have a media pitch for every initiative. But you’ll likely waste resources if you insist a reporter or your PR agency try anyway. https://lnkd.in/gDPCsk4C

There's no denying that social media is tough for regulated industries. In pharmaceuticals, finance, oil and gas, legal services... There are a lot of rules and regulations you need to follow. Add employee advocacy into the mix, and it may seem too risky for leadership to endorse the concept. But what if I told you it can be risk-free? Here's how to get your team active on social media, while avoiding the risks of them 'going rogue': 🔸 Get your marketing team to create content for employees to share. This will ensure legal compliance and prevent the distribution of misinformation. 🔸 Limit your advocacy program to professional social media platforms that you conduct business on, e.g. LinkedIn. 🔸 Onboard the C-Suite to set a positive example for the rest of your team. 🔸 Most importantly, ensure your social media policy outlines the do’s and don’ts, and provide all the necessary training so that everyone understands how to be professional online. #EmployeeAdvocacy #SocialMediaMarketing #Marketing
