RESPONSIBILITY BEING DUMPED Keeping our locality clean and hygienic is our responsibility. I shifted to a new place at Gurugram and found car space was looking like a dump yard. I then requested my landlord to get it cleaned as she lives in Dubai, she did everything she can control. Then in the end logged a complaint at the Municipal authorities and got the area cleaned. The next morning I was walking towards my car, meanwhile saw a person coming from the opposite building crossing the street and throwing garbage in the open area behind the car. while returning I stop him and suggested that there are dustbins installed on the ground floor of every building but why did he choose to throw garbage in the open area? He replied "Because everyone is throwing there, that's why I am dumping the garbage here" I was stunned by listening to his answer. By this one act, I got to know what his personality trade is and it was of no use discussing with him. My addiction is a result of the following experiences - in other words, my career in hospo in a nutshell, just for context: ✔️ 12 years in hospitality – check. ✔️ Worked in 3 different countries, among various cultures – check. ✔️ Worked in restaurants as a server and a manager – check. ✔️ Worked as a concierge – check. ✔️ Managed conference and events departments in a five-star hotel – check. ✔️ Worked as a leader in the hotel industry in five-star hotels – check. ✔️ Organised large-scale events from A to Z, mainly weddings – check. ✔️ Managed a hotel, restaurant, and golf resort – check. I have been in your shoes, and if you love hospitality for the same reasons I do, you also have this addiction. Below, I have listed my primary motivations. While in hospo, I felt it was worth getting up in the morning and going to work because of these points: 🔥 When I saw the smiles on the guests' faces. 🔥 When a guest personally thanked me for my work. 🔥 When my supervisors warmly shook my hand in appreciation. 🔥 When a guest did me a favour, directly or indirectly. 🔥 When a guest mentioned my name in online reviews. 🔥 When a guest called me by name on their return because they remembered me. 🔥 When I heard from a colleague, a guest remarked how much they enjoyed their time when I was working. ...and I could go on. These came to mind suddenly. Although I am no longer on the floor, I am still involved in hospo as a marketing design specialist. It is still dear to my heart. What do you know about managing VIPs?? Managing Very Important Personalities (VIPs) are a whole lot, I would say this is one of the most demanding responsibilities, I have ever handled. For me, it's their Logistics and Transportation; I would always have to ensure that their vehicle hire requests are delivered exactly, vehicle type, colour and efficiency with my company Global Circle Logistics . This responsibilities doesn't have a time limit, it's not like a '9-5', you would have to be available for calls, responsive to emails, texts and chats even at odd hours, because their very busy and tasking schedules can demand your service spontaneously. It's a whole lot, you even get frustrated when you find a lapse in their Logistics, this lapse can cause a delay which would automatically have huge implications. You know every second counts, but to VIPs, even micro-seconds do count. For them, it is not enough to notice and communicate errors or flaws, but you have to also be able to manage crisis, innovate and turn things around on the spot, even under so much pressure. Thank God, I started out business and in the Transport sector, particularly this Vehicle hire segment, I have learnt a lot and indeed I am still learning a lot.
