The Olympics is almost upon us and the nation as always is relying heavily on the "neglected" Athletics federation to win medals with the likes of Ese Brume and Tobi Amusan at the forefront placing these athletes under immense pressure. Why is it that Nigerian Athletics is always involved in this "rejected stone becomes the cornerstone" scenario every Olympic year? That needs to stop. #Nigeriansports #Athletics #Sports #Olympics #Paris2024 #sportsjournalism #sportsmedia #sportswriting #sportscontent #freelancewriting

Paris 2024 - Comité d'organisation des Jeux Olympiques et Paralympiques de 2024 will be the first Olympic Games to have an equal number of male and female medalists. "Sport has long been a male-dominated affair. Things are evolving, but there’s still a lot of ground to cover," says LAURA FLESSEL OLY, France’s sports minister and most famous female fencer, who competed in five Olympics and was a coach at her sixth consecutive games. "Paris 2024 will show a new image of women’s sport and female athletes. The image of women who are both mothers and champions," says Laura, whose first Olympics was in Atlanta 1996 and her last in Rio in 2016: in total she won two gold medals and three further medals in the épée events. Laura became France's Sports Minister in 2017 and was instrumental for France winning the bid to host the 2024 Games. "Many women still see sport as a purely curative activity. With the Games, they'll realise that it's much more than that. Paris 2024 will highlight female champions, but also coaches and referees." https://lnkd.in/ersfMgV9 #Diversity #Inclusion #DiversityAndInclusion #InclusionAndDiversity #DiversityNetwork #GenderParity #Paris2024

Paris 2024 Paralympics: Para-athletes from Russia and Belarus will be allowed to compete at next year's Paralympics after officials voted against a full ban. The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) voted to partially suspend both the National Paralympic Committees of Russia and Belarus. It means competitors from both nations can take part in Paris as neutrals. The Paris Games in 2024 start on 28 August and end on 8 September. In a statement, the IPC said: "IPC members voted 90-56 in favour of a motion to partially suspend NPC Russia (with six members abstaining). "This decision was taken after members initially voted against a motion to fully suspend NPC Russia by 74-65 (with 13 abstentions). For a motion to be passed, a 50% 1 result of all votes cast was required." It later said: "IPC members voted 74-56 (15 abstentions) against a motion to fully suspend NPC Belarus for breaches of its constitutional membership obligations. "The IPC General Assembly voted 79-57 (nine abstentions) to partially suspend NPC Belarus for breaches of its constitutional membership obligations." #Paralympics #Paris2024 #AthleticsAfrica #ParaAthletics

🎾 Wimbledon brings exciting moments both on and off the court, and especially in the media! Teads’ Media Barometer reveals curious findings about UK readership during Wimbledon 2024: • Winning the men's and women's singles isn’t the only path to popularity, as some British tennis players generated more buzz than the finalists during the championship. • The popularity contest extended beyond professional players to official sponsors, with key brands competing for the attention of tennis fans. • Wimbledon’s Royal Box hosted an array of celebrities making headlines this year, but the appearance of Kate Middleton at the men’s finals definitely stole the show. • Despite all the excitement among tennis lovers, UK readership was clearly dominated by Euro 2024 during the finals.
