⚽ The best team in the land and all the world? 🏆
The FIFA Club World Cup kicks off today, with Saudi champions Al Ittihad opening the tournament taking place in their home city of Jeddah.
In the UK, the competition isn't usually given too much attention, perhaps because there is, at most, one English club competing, or perhaps because it takes place in the middle of what many fans here consider their bread and butter - the league season.
That being said, I'm quite looking forward to this year's edition. Now, this is probably helped by the fact that my club is competing for the first time, with the chance to add another new trophy to the cabinet, and that I'll be doing some work on tournament-related content.
More than that, however, it's a great chance to watch teams we very rarely get to see in action, with lesser-known players and, perhaps, interesting or unusual playing styles.
As is often the case, the European Champions, Manchester City, will be fairly strong favourites to lift the trophy, but (unfortunately) their form has been a bit shaky of late. Meanwhile, the Saudi side have added some genuinely huge talents to their squad, which could see them go a long way.
With seven games over the next ten days, it'll certainly make for entertaining viewing alongside the regular league and European fixtures.
Will you be watching? What are you most looking forward to about the tournament?
