Last week The King's Fund published a new report on shifting NHS care away from hospitals and closer to people's homes. Louise Ansari our Chief Executive welcomes their calls for a focus on primary and community care, saying it is the most common area of concern for patients feeding back their experiences. "Focusing support to NHS teams to deliver care closer to home will support many people get the right help in the right place. Although some patients prefer to travel longer distances for specialist advice or for continuity of care, others prioritise speed of access. And in most cases, that will be in their local community. “As ever, there must be ongoing engagement to understand people’s preferences at each interaction with the health service, and to support a culture of listening to and involving patients as decision makers in their own care. “And ultimately, we need to see improvements made to primary and community care. This includes investment in social care reform, expanding patient transport support to non-hospital services, supporting GP teams to deliver 24/7 access to e-triage, and giving people meaningful choices at the point of booking their appointments.” https://bit.ly/4bVFbPF

Private hospitals and health funds have a traditionally robust relationship. But while we are strong advocates for our work, we know that we need to work together to deliver the best healthcare outcomes for patients and members. For months now, St Vincent’s has asked nib Group for a fair funding agreement that considers the rising costs of providing private hospital care. But sadly, nib has closed the door on our request. That’s why St Vincent’s has today given notice to nib that – unless the health fund changes its mind over the next 65-business days – we’ll end our agreement with them in early October. This means that after this date – unless an agreement is reached – nib members may be required to contribute more to the cost of their care when using a St Vincent’s private hospital, as the benefits paid by nib will decrease. Exiting our agreement with nib is not the outcome St Vincent’s wants. St Vincent’s has done its utmost to reach a fair agreement. But as a not-for-profit, St Vincent’s needs to be able to cover its basic costs. We hope that nib sees sense over the notice period and makes a fairer offer but we must plan for a future where they don’t. We’ve set up a new website - svph.org.au/nibupdate – to provide nib members and the wider public with information about this matter. Similarly, our call centre is also now available to help with any queries: 1300 644 273.

The NHS Trusts need to work on running hospitals properly, and who ever is the next government need to seriously look at bringing in the Private sector to build the much needed hospitals throughout Britain, it's very simple where are any government going to find the money to build the 42 hospitals that need to be built. you are probably talking about £200 million plus to build a new Hospital. so your talking around £8,400,000,000 in total. so where are the next government going to find the money. without these new hospitals the NHS is not concentrating on caring for the public.
