What would you do if someone stole your house and livelihood, killed some of your family members in the process, left the rest of you with nothing, and forced you to live in the squalor of a refugee camp? That is what Israel did to over 750,000 Palestinian in 1948, over 300,000 in 1967, and over 250,000 since then, and more every year. Most of the families in Gaza owned homes and farms where Israeli cities and towns now stand, which Israel literally stole from them. Many still even have the keys, and some homes still stand with Jewish immigrants living in them now. I also cry for the 36 innocent Israeli children killed on October 7th, but this horrible conflict did NOT start on that day. The proof is the nearly 2300 Palestinian children Israeli soldiers and settlers killed between the year 2000 and October 2023, including 43 children during the 9 months just before October 7th (all names & details documented on BTselem.org). Not to mention Israel’s brutal 57 year occupation/apartheid, and the blockade of Gaza since 2005 — both illegal under international law, and simply immoral and inhumane.. And now Israel is committing genocide and our government is helping them do it. Israel has killed over 12,000 Palestinian children in under 5 months, has orphaned over 25,000 more children, and has made over 900,000 children homeless during winter. And Israel is still blocking international aid to these children, increasingly killing them with starvation, dehydration, and disease, in addition to killing them with U.S. supplied bombs and ammunition. They’ve literally been amputating children’s legs without anesthesia. Can you imagine if that happened to your child? Aid agencies have even had to come up with a new acronym: WCNSF, which stands for Wounded Child No Surviving Family. Do you really think Hamas will need to teach the children who survive this hell to hate Israel, or is Israel’s indiscriminate brutality doing it for them, as it has for 75 years? PLEASE WRITE & CALL YOUR REPRESENTATIVES & the White House to demand that they stop helping Israel kill and starve children, commit war crimes, and maintain its brutal and racist apartheid, with our tax dollars. Our government has the power to end this unimaginable cruelty by simply refusing to send more weapons and ammunition to Israel, and by also not vetoing any more UN Security Council resolutions for a ceasefire. I just finished reading "The Operator" - David Geffen is the ultimate strategist. He's been the go-to for industry leaders like Steve Jobs, The Clintons, Calvin Klein and built businesses reaching the peak in recorded music, broadway and film. Every year in his life reads like a 10 year career. Here are my takeaways: • Hardwork always translates. Geffen would average 80-100 calls per day, his start in the William Morris mailroom was built on time. • Identifying Talent.  This is not just artists, it's executives. This was one of his competitive advantages throughout his career. • Social Impact. Geffen's philanthropy was world-class. He was the ultimate fundraiser. His contribution to AIDS research and the Democrat party will have a lasting impact on society. • Use other people's money. Both Asylum and Geffen Records were JVs. • Jackson Browne is not only a prolific artist, but may have also doubled as the most important A&R of his generation. • Be comfortable in your own skin. There's a lot to unpack here when you take into context time and society. How Geffen navigated interpersonal relationships was the unfortunate tax he paid on his legacy.  • Where did all the characters go? I picked this up as a recommendation from The Manager's Playbook by Mauricio Ruiz. Very timely OpEd by the Crain's Chicago Business editorial board to highlight that we need new business leaders to follow the footsteps of highly civically minded business leaders like Jim Crown and Rocky Wirtz: "They also embodied a tradition that sets Chicago’s business community apart from other major metros: This city expects its business elite to play a role in its civic life, getting big projects like Millennium Park off the ground, contributing to the upkeep of beloved institutions such as the renovation of the Museum of Science & Industry, and helping elected officials to take on giant, seemingly intractable challenges such as combating crime, improving education and creating economic opportunity in the neighborhoods as well as the Loop." As I mentioned in yesterday's post here on LinkedIn, we need a new generation of business leaders who are civically engaged to build a better Chicago across all 77 neighborhoods. A sole focus on generating business growth and profit will not build a more equitable and inclusive region where the opportunities are as equally distributed as the talent already is.

Go Jags is all good for most football fans in Jax. As an individual, I say, at what price for the two percenters stadium? Research shows that the NFL Games do not impact taxpayers' quality of Life or the city. Plus, the folly to invest in Eastside is fool gold unless the Eastside dollars are simulating with the stadium renovation. To elevate a community, four pillars are required - rebuilding the family infrastructure, Afrocentric education, preventative health, and collective economics. African American leadership must demand more from the city when addressing unmet promises unfulfilled. Let Go, Jaguars, but put the citizens First. The African American leadership on the Eastside is dysfunctional. Albert Einstein once said we cannot solve our problems using the same thinking that created the problem when it comes to elevating the thinking and embracing stem education through workshops. The Jaguars or the city cannot save the Eastside without community activists, entrepreneurs, and subject matter experts who live in the community. Donna promises the Urban Core. Real talk.
