A critical component of addressing long term and continuing care for first nations and indigenous populations will be in contextualizing and adapting standardized assessment tools like the RAI; particularly around psycho-social dimensions. Like all other parts of healthcare the standardized assessments used in long term and continuing care have a strong bias towards individualistic and nuclear family norms. One of the more important distinctions can be found in the meaning making around the process of aging. In the conventional geriatric medicine model aging is a process of decreasing contributions and increasing dependence. In contrast many First Nations and Indigenous cultures make meaning of aging as the time to pass on knowledge from elders. As such a critical component in assessing well-being in long term and continuing care is the availability of opportunities for the clients to meaningfully fulfill the role of elder or knowledge passer. And this does not even begin to scratch the surface of how those collected assessments are then used beyond the scope of care by funding, reporting, regulatory, and oversight bodies.

(Draft) Inverclyde Community Justice Outcomes Improvement Plan 2024 Last week Inverclyde Community Justice Partnership published its draft Community Justice Outcomes Improvement Plan. This plan initially commenced following publication of the National Strategy for Community Justice in 2022 and developed throughout 2023. The CJOIP has five priority outcomes reflecting the four nationally determined outcomes and a locally determined outcome around housing and homelessness outcomes for those in the justice system. The document outlines progress from the previous CJOIP published in 2015, an analysis of community justice locally and action underway by the Partnership to meet the priority aims. Regarding the priority outcomes a range of proposed actions are included over the next few years. The document has now moved into an engagement phase until mid-March. There is a consultation survey for groups and individuals locally, a planned week of engagement with the third sector, engagement with individuals who have lived/living experience of the justice system and a number of staff engagement sessions from across the Partnership and beyond. Community Land Trusts are a tool in the toolbox for real estate and economic development!

Yesterday, March 3rd, representatives of California Community Reinvestment Corporation virtually attended the National Housing Conference (NHC)’s “2024 Solutions for Housing Communications” convening. The event featured panels with pro-housing thought leaders, who joined to discuss the importance of accurate, subversive, and poignant storytelling when building public support for housing. Pro-housing advocacy must contend with the misinformed narratives on risk, public feelings of helplessness, and personal apathies that surround housing activism to mobilize all hands available to address the shortage. Outreach efforts must also take comprehensive steps to engage diverse perspectives, with the end goal being to make the fight as collective as possible.   Everyone has stock in an equitably housed nation, and engaging with solutions today will invariably improve the future for all. 🏥 The VRU provides more than £2 million of support to 24 boroughs via our Community Capacity Building Grant for interventions in neighbourhoods affected by high levels of violence. 🤝 This includes providing additional capacity to support incident responses in the community, which is delivered through a partnership approach between local communities, stakeholders, key local institutions, and statutory partners. 💡 Through VRU funding, Greenwich Community Safety delivered its Peninsula project following two critical incidents in 2021. Following delivery, the Greenwich project reported that: ✅ 40% of residents responded feeling “safe” or “very safe” compared to 20% in 2021 ✅ 78% of residents knew the options of how to report violence and crime compared to 41% in 2021 who felt they were not likely to report any witnessed incidents ✅ A developed and strong partnership network of residents, statutory, and non-statutory organisations ➡️ Find out more about our borough support: https://lnkd.in/ee3RAty8

STRATEGIC PLAN SPOTLIGHT: One of the core values listed in Richland County's Strategic Plan is accessibility, or ensuring services are equitable, available and accessible to all residents. The County’s Neighborhood Improvement Program (NIP) coordinates and funds neighborhood master plans and improvement projects in the community. NIP hosts monthly meetings, called S.P.E.E.D. (Sustainability, Planning, Education, Engagement, Development) events, to provide helpful neighborhood and community information and resources. An upcoming NIP S.P.E.E.D. event, Empowering Seniors Through Community Resources, will educate and inform residents about resources available to seniors in our community.
