I completed Starfield's main quest last night. There was no boss battle at the end, though there could have been: I simply persuaded the antagonist to hand over the artifact and he left without a fight - though I had backup if I needed it.
Starfield's predecessor, Fallout 4, had a different alternative option: since I didn't want to side with either of the main, equally nasty, factions, I persuaded all of the tiny farms and villages to unite against them.
Two daunting opponents against everyone else (and the little guy won).
We tell stories to teach, and prosocial cooperation is at the heart of everything from Buffy to Fast & Furious.
Mission Impossible. I can't do it alone, but with your help, we might.
And yet we teach each other in business, "These People Are Not Your Friends", while scientists show that humanity only reached the level of civilization where we have offices because we learned to trust each other.
At Adaptavist, our internal motto is "trust by default", and that means earning it as well as giving it.
It's intuitive to me, but if we're ever going to reach the stars, we all need to re-learn that lesson.
Love this! I agree; these promotions are well-deserved.
