A recent NEJM Catalyst article highlighted how San Francisco’s collaborative COVID-19 response saved lives and reduced health disparities.   Covid-19 challenged health care delivery systems worldwide, and we are thankful to our partners in healthcare who united to prioritize the health and well-being of our diverse communities in #SF. Through this coordination and community partnership, San Francisco achieved one of the lowest Covid-19 death rates and had one of the highest vaccination and booster rates, compared to rates across California or the United States.    The “San Francisco Health Systems Collaborative” formed during the COVID-19 pandemic now serves as a national model in pandemic response. Two San Francisco Department of Public Health programs that help people access substance use treatment won the 2024 Achievement Awards by the National Association of Counties Since 1970, the awards have recognized outstanding county government programs and services. Congrats to the Pathways program, hosted by #SFDPH Office of Health Equity (OHE), on a successful first year. The program aims to give Black, indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) youth access to careers they have been excluded from historically.

Congratulations to the AVON Breast Center at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center for 20 years of delivering excellent, patient-centered care through their comprehensive program. What truly makes the Breast Center special is the continuum of care provided by our dedicated staff. From administrators and schedulers to the radiologists, technologists, oncologists, surgeons, and care navigators, our teams ensure that patients receive comprehensive support from testing to diagnosis and treatment.

Last weekend, San Francisco Department of Public Health and Laguna Honda Hospital walked with the community at @aidswalksf to remember those we lost and to show our support in ending HIV/AIDS. We will continue to fight and are committed to providing comprehensive HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment services. #AIDSWalkSFkSF

#SFDPH is proud to inspire the next generation of public health and health care leaders through our Pathways program, a mentorship program that aims to connect Black, indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) youth with mentors across the City and County of San Francisco. The program offers three cohorts per year and provides a wide array of opportunities for interns to connect to various city resources for career options. This week, #SFDPH employees and community members attended free screenings of the documentary, “Power to Heal: Medicare and the Civil Rights Revolution.” Presented by California Physicians Alliance (CaPA) , the film educates on the historic struggle for equitable health care access. Through learning partnerships like this, #SFDPH Office of Health Equity continues to develop ways to incorporate health equity into our daily practices.
