Now more than ever is the need to unlock this capability in the maritime domain, and it's an effort that we're already beginning to drive forward at UKHO.    It is well understood that harnessing the power of data can help to give both an authoritative and systems view of the world around us. Where traditionally navigational data focused on hazards and depths, there is now scope to include so much more. A better connected marine data ecosystem with synchronicities spanning journey to ports will allow for better decision making helping to optimise ship performance, enable smart and efficient route planning, reduce costs and realise optimised fuel consumption (thereby reducing emissions).   Of course it doesn't end with decarbonisation. Navigational data can expand the capabilities of decision making in the shipping industry by integrating with other informative onboard systems. This increase in decision making capability will enable mariners to achieve their primary tasks in a more efficient way while simultaneously forging a more sustainable future for our oceans, ecosystems and coastal communities.  #shipping #maritime #sustainability

Last week we were joined for an industry chat by Mark Banks, currently Head of Programme Management at Xtrac Ltd, and formerly from Aston Martin and McLaren. He shared his career journey and gave many useful insights into breaking into the automotive sector: - In addition to a good education and a good CV, you need to demonstrate an interest in the automotive or motorsport sector. Maybe you’re a car enthusiast, working at a car dealership, or writing a dissertation on a related research topic? - There are many entryways into this industry: graduate programmes such as Aston Martin, Maclaren, or Jaguar Land Rover are popular with graduates. Consultancies with big automotive teams include Roland Berger, EY, and Ven Digital. But there are also great opportunities within the supply chain for automotive – check out companies like Bosch and Continental, who work directly with car companies and often see their talent move across the sector. - Networking is important! If you are genuinely new to automotive then start by attending an auto or motor sporting event, of which there are many across the country and the world.
