Working in a rural or critical-access hospital means being part of a close-knit community, and earning trust requires compassion, empathy, and a firm commitment to public health. We admire those who work in these roles to ensure each patient is treated with the same level of quality care they would receive in larger facilities. Connecticut hospitals and health systems are building a healthier state, and their many contributions to the community transcend hospital walls. Hospitals are developing opportunities to drive regional transformative change in community health, care delivery, and health equity. 🏥 Through community benefit programs that encompass a wide range of services, hospitals are collaborating with local organizations to address housing, food insecurity, transportation, diaper insecurity, and employment. Hospitals also provide free and discounted care, subsidize essential health services, and contribute to research -- investments amounting to $3.4 billion in 2022. This #NationalHospitalWeek, learn about some of the many programs that Connecticut hospitals and their partners have united to establish in CHA's "Community Benefit Report," one of three annual publications. Treating patients and employees like Ohana - or family - is in their DNA. Erik told us that like with any family, there needs to be trust, transparency, and sometimes even tough love for accountability, which is a two-way street. The team at Adventist Health Castle listens to the community and deeply values that feedback when choosing how to best serve their patients and teams. Their holistic approach includes community-centered events like Christmas tree lightings, speaking to students, and other ways that encourage the community to become a partner in their healthcare. Their commitment to clinical excellence combined with their “Love Matters” campaign lead them to a Baldrige Award win in 2017. It's rare I watch or listen to a podcast and am inspired. Remembering the word, "inspire" comes from the root, "in spirit", we can say my inspiration has its roots in love, which is exactly what this podcast speaks to: Love as a guiding principle in the leadership, management, and delivery of excellent healthcare. Apurv Gupta, MD, MPH, Stephanie Feals and guest, Erik Anderson of Adventist Health Castle go deep into the practical application of love in creating the excellence in healthcare delivery that wins a National Baldrige Award. But it's so much more than winning this prestigious award. It's about the love that brings together leadership, staff, patients, families and community. Together we're better, yes? AUSTIN - The Black Men's Health Clinic (BMHC) will lead a panel discussion called, "Advancing Quality Primary Care through Innovative Strategies", with BMHC Board President, Dr. Larry Wallace, Jr., at the helm. This dialogue will be conducted at the Healthier Texas Summit, hosted by It's Time Texas and The University of Texas System, on October 5th and 6th. This gathering of healthcare advocates will be comprised of more than 700 Public Health professionals, leaders, and innovators; uniting in an effort to transform health in Texas by empowering action for systems change. This panel will be held on October 6th at 3:30 p.m. and will be focused on helping Texans get needed primary care, which is unattainable for many. Dr. Wallace will moderate this panel discussion that will focus on coming together to chart a new course to meet the needs of all consumers who want and need access, convenience, and personalized experiences to take more control of their health.
