Dear Brown Girl Surf community, supporters, and wave-riders, As we slow into winter, we look back upon our last year of deepening and growth, grateful for the opportunities and successes. We are writing to you to share a very exciting and pivotal shift in our organization. BGS has always done our best to adapt and shift to keep up with the expansion of our work, and of our community. Most of the time, we have found that small, but integral language shifts have been necessary to appropriately reflect and include everyone who is a part of our expansive group of ocean beings. The name #Browngirlsurf holds so much meaning and power for many of us. Deep relationships have developed within this organization over the last decade. However, more recently we have been feeling and hearing from many folks in our community that there is a dissonance between our name, Brown Girl Surf, and those whom we represent, those who support us, and those who come to be in the ocean with us. While the explicit gender and racial reference has made many people feel seen through Brown Girl Surf’s founding and growth, today we are reaching for a new name to honor the vast spectrum of identities we all hold. After more than a year of workshopping, consulting, and dreaming, we have, with great respect, decided to change the name of our organization. Our new name creates the space we’ve needed for the expansive identities we all hold, the space needed to grow deeper in our relationships with one another, and with the ocean. With open hearts, we are becoming Salted Roots 💙 https://lnkd.in/g2k9kxHv Salted Roots will remain a space centered on the experiences, expertise, and emotions of Black, Indigenous, girls, women, and gender-expansive folks of color. Our purpose and mission is still to cultivate a surf culture rooted in collective power, equity, love, and reverence for the Earth. We will continue this by deepening community wellbeing, amplifying a narrative of abundance, increasing access to the ocean, and centering the intuitive knowledge of girls, women, and gender-expansive people of color. We feel unboundedly appreciative of your ability to share compassionately and your willingness to motivate us to continually be better. Without your reflections and insights, the grassroots community movement that originated with the launch of our community programs in Oakland in 2015, would not be able to make this transition into Salted Roots, an identity founded in communal learning. So we thank you, from the depth of every ocean and water connection we each may hold - thank you for guiding us on this voyage to return to ourselves, as Salted Roots ✨ With Deep Gratitude 🌊 Adriana Guerrero Executive Director

Applications are now OPEN for Colorado Wildlife Federation's new program, Bridges to BOW - an extension of our Becoming an Outdoors Woman program! Through Bridges to BOW (B2B), young women from diverse, under-represented, BIPOC, and/or other underserved communities learn about, register for, and attend a BOW program. We are working to increase diversity among participants and ensure that BOW is a welcoming, safe, and inclusive space where all women feel a sense of belonging. BOW has proven to be a successful way to introduce the outdoors and all its wonders to the women of Colorado. However, while BOW is a great learning opportunity, many young women from diverse communities in Colorado don’t even know that the program exists. And for those who have heard of BOW, the opportunity can seem out of reach. Registration fees, lack of experience, or the hesitancy to try something new can all serve as barriers to young women wanting to gain experience in the outdoors. B2B exists to break these barriers and serve as a bridge to Becoming an Outdoors Woman. Consider applying for this exciting, fully funded program that gets you into the outdoors for a fun and action-packed weekend! More information about this year's 3-day BOW program coming soon!! Please visit our website to learn more and apply for B2B, https://buff.ly/4co8z15. #BecomingAnOutdoorsWoman #BOW #CWF #B2B #ColoradoEvents #Colorado #ColoradoOutdoors #OutdoorAdventures #WomenOutdoors #Hunting #Archery #Fishing #WildernessSkills

Helping Landowners /developers and government resolve public access issues. * Public Rights of Way * Common Land & Village Greens *Coast Paths & Promoted Routes * Strategies & policies
Interesting article here on removing all unnecessary barriers on PROW. Generally agree as long as areas where routes need to be stock proof existing structures kept or more inclusive ones put in. All needs more funding and ongoing funding as PROW have always done. What are your thoughts?
Our path network is a national treasure. It’s the main way most of us get into the outdoors, linking up our urban green spaces and spreading out into the countryside. But whether it's blocked paths, stiles, steps or inaccessible gates, preventable barriers are blocking us from unleashing the potential of our path network and stopping many of us from getting out and enjoying nature 🚫👨🦼🌳👩🏿🦯🦮 It’s time to unlock the outdoors for everyone. 🗝️🌳 #OutdoorsUnlocked https://lnkd.in/efrpC7vz

Do your parks offer more facilities for dogs than girls? 🤔 Make Space for Girls thinks they do. Yikes. The new hot of the press Parkwatch report lays out the results of how teenagers were using facilities in their local parks and how many where girls, and it ain't pretty. The data from this citizen science project is a travesty and demonstrates just how the voices of girls have been silenced in open space and park planning, that facilities for teenagers really means boys and that girls have been sidelined in parks.🙍♀️ Whilst women continue to be underrepesented at the decision making table from Councils/Boards and CEOs to the sport, rec and design sectors, the lived experiences and voices of girls turned to low volume and the default skatepark, BMX track and multi use games area rendered the solution to all teenagers needs, then we'll always get what we've always got, girls designed out of parks and being active and more dog facilities than those for girls! Check out the full report here and let me know about your observations and work https://lnkd.in/dFad5UbW #physicalactivity #equality #participation #sport #parks

As a passionate advocate for inclusive outdoor experiences, I firmly believe in the transformative power of accessibility in adventure sports. The great outdoors should be a domain where no one is excluded due to physical limitations. By integrating adaptive equipment and creating accessible trails, we can ensure that the thrill of adventure is available to everyone. Initiatives like sensory trails for the visually impaired, wheelchair-accessible paths, and specialized climbing gear are not just enhancements; they are essential elements that open up a world of possibilities for people with disabilities. Making these inclusive practices a standard rather than an exception is crucial. No matter what your disability is , it should not restrict you from experiencing the outdoors and indulging in some adventure. It’s about embracing diversity in the natural world and affirming that the spirit of adventure knows no boundaries. #GlobalAccessebilityAwarenessDay #DisabilityInclusion #InclusionMatters #AccessibilityMatters #Outdoors #Adventure #AccessibilityAwareness #DisabilityAwareness Anusha Subramanian Guneet Puri In this video Sanket, who is blind is manoeuvring his path on a trek
