Did you know Women’s History Month originated from a celebration in Sonoma, California, back in 1978, where schools organized presentations, essay contests, and parades to honor women’s contributions to society. This grassroots movement quickly gained momentum, leading President Jimmy Carter to declare the week of March 8 as National Women’s History Week in 1980. Finally, in 1987, it became a month-long event thanks to the efforts of the National Women’s History Project (History.com).
