We proudly celebrated the conclusion of Pride Month with joyful dancing down Market Street in Downtown San Francisco during the San Francisco Pride Parade. The theme of the event was "Beacon of Love".

Hi everyone. I'd like to share with all of you some information about Living Corporate , a great resource for organizations that plan to amplify and connect with Black and Brown communities. Their approach to media campaigns, both internal and external , is very unique in this space. I encourage you to take a look if this is potentially a part of your strategy (or if is not, how they could be). Check out the case studies if you get a chance--really interesting. https://lnkd.in/gkpBbuWi

“What is the story of St. Patrick’s Day?” It’s a question I probably ask myself every year. Every holiday has some kind of origin story, but some seem to stick more than others. St. Patrick’s Day seems to be an excuse for adolescents to pinch each other, people who love green to celebrate their favorite color, the Irish to proclaim their heritage, and those who like to drink to do so in excess. And even those who aren’t Irish get in on the celebration (see the video of my three-year-old grandson delivering the line his father taught him on St. Pat's Day). According to history.com, “St. Patrick’s Day observes of the death of St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland. The holiday has evolved into a celebration of Irish culture with parades, special foods, music, dancing, drinking and a whole lot of green.” It appears the music, drinking, dancing, and a whole lot of green were not in the original story of St. Patrick but were the evolution to the holiday in present times. Think about the stories of your business and your corporate culture. Are they clear enough that the purpose will last? Or will they evolve over time into something that drifts from the original meaning? I teach people that when they use stories to teach, lead, sell, and inspire, they need to start with the purpose of the story. What lesson are you teaching? What action do you want to inspire? What do you want people to remember and do after hearing your story? If we aren’t intentional about our stories, they may become something other than what we originally intended. So, be sure to imbue your stories with purpose so people remember their meaning and they have the impact you intend. Otherwise, you may end up with corporate legends that are different than you want. #storytellingforbusiness #teachleadsellinspire #storiesmatter

Perhaps you, like me, are exhausted by the division, the opposition, and the isolationism of our current society. Perhaps you, like me, long for community in which hospitality is definitive of our social lives. If so, then I think that you, like me, can learn a lot from Jacques Derrida about the importance of "absolute" or "unconditional" hospitality. I hope you enjoy my new video trying to think through this complicated, and yet crucial, idea for our contemporary lives! #philosophy #derrida #hospitality #society #ethics #political #theory

A lot of us grew up being chastised for the marks we missed instead of being praised for what we got correct. Even if one gets 80%, the focus would be on the missing 20%. This feedback loop replays itself in adulthood where we focus on our weaknesses and downplay our strengths. It takes quite a bit of unlearning to operate to one's strengths. Learn2Lead, this is a great reminder that encourages leaders to seek flow and operate to their natural abilities instead of constantly trying to re-wire their brains. 🙏
Amplifying the strengths versus weaknesses In corporate we normally classify a lot of things in colour. For example if an action item is pending it’s likely to be marked in yellow. If it’s over due in red. And if it’s completed it is marked in green. This makes it easier to see where we are doing well and where we need improvement. Some one said in a meeting recently that the greens we don’t need action plans for. I disagree . These are the areas that need to be amplified more than the reds- we need to keep reinforcing what we are doing well. There is enough noise out there - let’s embrace peaceful music. Amplifying where we are doing well goes a long way to creating a more conducive culture.
