When the Shield is Tested — Windshield Parable for Public Safety (PART 2)
In our Windshield Parable, we delve deeper into the moments when unexpected, more severe incidents occur. Sometimes, a sizable object, akin to a major traumatic event, strikes the windshield, causing it to shatter. This catastrophic failure represents the overwhelming of the Apparently Normal Part (ANP) of one's personality - the part that maintains functionality in daily life.
Just as the shattered windshield exposes the car’s occupants to harm, the overwhelmed ANP reveals the internal vulnerabilities and unprocessed experiences of public safety professionals. These emotional parts (EPs), once contained and managed, now become active, akin to a wasp trapped within the car, leading to potential psychological distress.
(Join us in the next post where we discuss the importance of internal resilience and integration.)
