I want to introduce and welcome back our newest Marine Surveyor, Madden Judd (Sgt. USA). Madden came to Sabine Surveyors, Ltd. Surveyors, Ltd. as an intern through the DoD-SkillBridge program which allows retiring or separating armed forces members to complete internships in an industry of choosing while still on active duty for several months prior to transitioning from service in hopes of securing employment in that industry upon separation or retirement. We knew after the first couple weeks of his 5 month internship that we’d make Madden an offer for full time employment. It was apparent that his dedication, accountibility, and professionalism met the Sabine Surveyors, Ltd. standards of excellence. Well, he officially completed his service to our country and started employment with Sabine Surveyors, Ltd. yesterday. This evening, I am accompaning him on his check ride for conducting a clean hold and deadweight survey aboard a deep-draft cargo vessel. Sabine Surveyors, Ltd. Is appointed as Donjon-Smit ‘s OPA-90 Rapid Situation Assesor for the New Orleans region. As such, Im attending the OPA 90 Forum tabletop exercise hosted by Donjon-Smit in Washington, DC. While here, I had the pleasure of making the acquaintance of an incredable women (Carleen Walker) whose dedicated much of her life to improving the U.S. Marine Indusry in many ways. Her presentation covered a number of topics, but one really caught my eye, workforces staffing. The U.S. is at an all time low of available mariners and ships to meet our country’s economic needs and to ensure continued security and prosperity; the U.S. relies too heavily on on foreign merchant marines and ships. Carleen believes it’s partly because the American public isn’t aware of the importance of the marine industry on the American economy.
