Now, not only is the free version being used by over 180 million users, but the paid version is also being adopted by companies and businesses to streamline their operations. 🔺 With such an enormous user base comes an incredible number of requests per day—hundreds of millions, to be precise. To handle this level of activity, OpenAI requires a significant amount of power, roughly equivalent to half a million kilowatt-hours of electricity. 🔺 To put that figure into perspective, the average American household consumes around 29 kilowatt-hours per day. So, OpenAI's servers are churning through energy equivalent to what 17,000 households would use—quite a staggering amount. 🔺 Experts predict that by 2027, the AI industry will consume somewhere between 85 to 134 terawatt-hours, which is a billion times more than a kilowatt-hour. ❗ But energy isn't the only resource being heavily utilized. Cooling the supercomputers requires a substantial amount of water as well. Every time ChatGPT processes between five to 50 questions or prompts, it uses about 0.473 liters of water 😱
