Now we do have to say it. The next item on our helping list is donations. ☕Yes, not just donations, but regular donations. However small the amount. The amount for a good meal at your favourite restaurant, an outing to the cinema with the family, a good coffee with cake. So our number six is: 6)     Donate a coffee ☕Regular donations are much more than just money coming into our account. They give our organization a stable financial fundament. They allow us to plan. To promise our partners we will still be there next month. So they also can count on us, like we can count on you. The fundraising platforms we work with, allow you to set up a regular donation. ☕And now I see you thinking... ok, maybe a good idea, I will discuss it with … No. Don’t wait. Don’t postpone. Just do it. One coffee a month: ☕

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT: When my parents were around they were extremely generous with their very modest amount of money. In other words, they gave sacrificially but in some cases, it may have been $10 a year. They gave to several charitable organizations and to their church. After their deaths, I spent lots of energy trying to get their names off of email and mailing lists. To no avail. I still receive ridiculous amounts of unwanted mail. The picture below is from ONE non-profit. The absolute waste of all of this - in ONE mailing there were two pairs of socks, Christmas gift labels, address labels, a calendar, 12 Christmas cards and 3 markers. WHY? The money that is wasted on all of this could be used to actually help people. We’ve gotten pot holders, dish towels, stickers, pins, pens, and piles of other items We don’t need prizes for donating money. And we don’t need to be bribed to give money. How do we stop this? Open to suggestions.

Although uncommon, 𝘥𝘰𝘯𝘰𝘳𝘴 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘪𝘳 𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘥𝘴. They may come to believe your organization is 𝙢𝙞𝙨𝙪𝙨𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙤𝙧 𝙬𝙖𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙙𝙤𝙣𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙙 𝙛𝙪𝙣𝙙𝙨 or 𝙙𝙚𝙘𝙞𝙙𝙚 𝙞𝙩’𝙨 𝙣𝙤 𝙡𝙤𝙣𝙜𝙚𝙧 𝙛𝙪𝙡𝙛𝙞𝙡𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙞𝙩𝙨 𝙘𝙝𝙖𝙧𝙞𝙩𝙖𝙗𝙡𝙚 𝙢𝙞𝙨𝙨𝙞𝙤𝙣. Although you’re probably inclined to cooperate with requests, doing so can be difficult if you’ve already spent the money or if other factors are in play. THE SPIRIT BEHIND GIVING . . . At one point in time, I’m sure all of us have either donated in cash or in kind to a charitable organization or towards a worthy cause. What was your experience like? Recently, I participated in the donation drive of a humanitarian project. While the overall experience was encouraging, I made an interesting observation. Some donors went all out to answer the call, giving items that were required and in good conditions; but there are others who contributed items that simply had to be thrown away. It appeared that the project was used as an avenue to discard their unwanted items. Perhaps, some of them have forgotten that giving is more than just making a donation. We need to give items that is of value to the recipient. This is the true spirit of giving. I believe all of us would like to do our part to help the less fortunate. As we do so, let’s remind ourselves to be thoughtful in the process, lest we end up simply donating for donation’s sake. Agree? What are your thought on this? Share in the comments below.
