⚡️🌈 The energy sector continues to fall behind other industries on the Stonewall Index, suggesting there's more to be done by organisations and individuals to foster a more inclusive environment for LGBTQ colleagues. ⚡️🌈 See our post below for some ideas on how you as an individual can support LGBTQ people in your day-to-day work and personal lives!
🌈 ⚡️Only 21% of people believe that organisations in the energy sector provide an inclusive environment for LGBT people ⚡️🌈 Whilst there has undoubtedly been progress made, data from the most recent Pride in Energy Survey suggests that there is more work to be done to embrace LGBT inclusion across the sector. With 14% of LGBT individuals in the sector being victim to or witnessing discriminatory behaviour in the past year, and 10% of people believing that their employer does not foster an inclusive environment, the sector needs to do more. At Moorhouse, we recently ran our LGBT allyship training course, which 100% of the energy sector leadership attended. It was a great session and we wanted to share our top tips to help create a workplace where everyone feels comfortable bringing their true selves to work. What and Why We Speak Gay 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️ We Speak Gay is a global initiative aimed at fostering inclusivity and acceptance for the LGBTQ community. Founded by Hannu Medina, the initiative seeks to create supportive environments for LGBTQ individuals by raising awareness about the challenges they face and promoting inclusive practices in various sectors, particularly in the workplace and tourism. One of the main focuses of “We Speak Gay” is to provide education and training for businesses to become more inclusive. This involves helping companies develop communication strategies that visibly support LGBTQ individuals and ensuring their policies and practices create a safe and welcoming environment for everyone. The training emphasizes the importance of visibility and the positive impact that an inclusive culture can have on employee well-being and organizational innovation . Additionally, “We Speak Gay” actively collaborates with various organizations to promote LGBTQ friendly tourism, recognizing the significant socio-cultural, political, and economic benefits it brings to communities. This initiative includes highlighting and supporting LGBTQ friendly businesses and destinations, thereby encouraging inclusive and responsible tourism practices globally .

🌈 What's the first thing you think of when I mention "Pride" or "Pride Month"? 💖 For some, Pride is about being able to live their truth every day without fear – in both, their daily lives as well as at the workplace. 💖 For others, it might be more of an internal personal journey from self-awareness or self-discovery to self-acceptance. 💖 There are also those who wish to live their authentic lives but they see no need to announce it to others. Pride Month is about understanding that all these expressions of queerness are valid, and that there is progress to be found and achieved in each of them. 🌈 Celebrating inclusivity with Sebastian, Nicolas, Ashian and Carla 🌈 As the first company in the healthcare and medico-social sector to be certified Top Employer Europe, we have a responsibility to be exemplary. On this International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia, we would like to reaffirm Clariane’s commitment to equality, diversity and respect for the rights of LGBT people. 🏳️🌈✊ Our Group is committed to setting an example in terms of diversity and to foster an inclusive working environment that enables our employees to be who they are at all times. After initially signing the LGBT Charter of L'Autre Cercle in 2018, we have renewed our support and involvement for a three-year period in 2023. We also developed e-learning training modules to raise awareness of LGBT inclusion among employees in collaboration with L’Autre Cercle. But we are convinced that there is always room for improvement. To strengthen our actions, we formed in 2023 an European HR working group to facilitate the sharing of existing good practices, then to determine our priority areas of work. While Pride month is a joyful celebration of how far things have come, it’s also a call to action to advance LGBT inclusion at work and beyond. Deloitte LGBT at work survey sought the views of 5,474 LGBT people in workplaces across 13 countries. A massive 34% of respondents are looking to change employers for an organisation that is more LGBT inclusive. This rises to just over half (52%) for ethnic minority respondents. When considering a new employer, seeing a diverse workplace (69%) and the opportunity to get involved in #diversity and #inclusion initiatives (63%) matter the most.
