Our partner Norwegian Offshore Wind held a meaningful engagement session with local stakeholders at Utsira kommune today. This session served as a platform for an open and transparent dialogue, where the #WENDYPROJECTEU objectives and benefits were presented, and local opinions on wind farms were discussed. 💬 Listening to Local Voices During the meeting, the focus was on understanding the local community's perspective on the upcoming floating offshore wind farm. Their insights, concerns, and aspirations provide valuable input that can help shape upcoming wind farm development projects in a way that aligns with community values and needs. One of the key takeaways from the discussion was the importance of job creation to achieve social acceptance for the offshore wind farm. Swedish County Greenlights 2.5 GW Floating Wind Farm as Developer Agrees to Requested Modification The County Administrative Board of Västra Götaland has completed its review of the application for the 2.5 GW MARELD landskapsarkitekter AB floating offshore wind farm and recommended that the Swedish government approve the proposal after the developer agreed to the Board’s request to reduce the size of the wind farm area. Vidi Energy Group CEO Robert Speht welcomes this news from Sweden and comments: “It’s great that the developer has adjusted the floating wind farm to be able to coexist with other important societal interests such as fishing and shipping. Wind energy, particularly floating wind, can and should enhance the economy. Exciting times!” The project, developed by Freja Offshore, a 50-50 joint venture between Aker Horizons-owned Mainstream Renewable Power and Swedish company Hexicon, is proposed to be built about 40 kilometres west of Lysekil and is expected to deliver 12 TWh of electricity annually. Earlier this year, the joint venture also entered into a collaboration with the Norwegian company SubFarm to enable setting up fish farms inside the Mareld floating offshore wind farm. Freja Offshore submitted the planning application under the Swedish Economic Zone Act (SEZ) last year. The government had tasked the County Administrative Board of Västra Götaland with preparing the application, work which the County Administrative Board has now completed and returned with the recommendation that the wind farm should be approved, subject to certain adaptations. Namely, during the preparation process, the Board recommended Freja adjust the wind farm area size to ensure a sustainable co-existence with other important ocean users, such as commercial fishing and shipping. The developer has agreed to modify the project and is now waiting for the government’s final decision on the application. CIP and our Energy Transition Fund has - through the HØST PtX Esbjerg project in Denmark - a uniquely positioned project with access to power from Europe’s green power plant and abundant offshore wind resources in the North Sea combined with proximity to the German hydrogen demand centers. In short: A very good opportunity to harvest the wind and produce green molecules for the German industry to decarbonize, and at the same time contribute to further electrification of the Danish society.
