IMPERATIVE is proud to announce the receipt of our first ex ante carbon rating from BeZero Carbon. The first 10,000 hectare phase of Imperative’s recently sanctioned South African project, which at full scale will restore 100,000 hectares of land through active replanting of native thicket across a vast area in the Eastern and Western Capes of South Africa, has received an ex ante Standalone Carbon Rating of 'aa' and a BeZero Carbon ex ante Rating of 'Ae'. This ex ante rating puts Imperative’s Spekboom project amongst the highest rated Afforestation, Reforestation and Revegetation projects for which BeZero have issued ex ante ratings. This very strong rating serves as a significant external validation and endorsement of Imperative’s commitment to top-decile quality in our carbon credit projects. As execution progresses on the project, we aim to further increase the project’s rating. 🌟 Proud moment for IMPERATIVE 🌟 We’ve just earned a strong ex ante rating from BeZero Carbon for our South African Restoration Project! But what exactly does this mean? Think of it as getting a forecast on how effective our efforts will be in reducing carbon emissions before we fully roll them out. The rating from BeZero Carbon is based on their assessment of how likely our project is to achieve its carbon reduction goals. They use an eight-point alphabetic scale, ranging from ‘highest’ to ‘lowest’ likelihood, to convey their confidence in our project's ability to remove or avoid a tonne of CO2e. Receiving a strong rating means our South African Restoration Project is seen as very promising in its potential to capture and reduce carbon. This rating is a testament to our team's hard work and our commitment to impactful climate action. Chevron Australia has invested in two lower-carbon projects in Western Australia. One project, Carbon Sync, is a soil carbon sequestration pilot initiative that spans up to 80,000 hectares of WA’s agricultural region. The other project is a multi-year research venture with Deakin University’s Blue Carbon Lab to explore CO2 sequestration opportunities within WA’s coastal wetlands. Both projects aim to achieve Chevron’s lower carbon aspirations.

More good news coming from European Green Transition where this morning we have agreed an exclusive option agreement to investigate the potential to develop a peatland carbon sink programme, which could in turn generate valuable carbon credits. The deal allows #EGT to perform due diligence at the Altan farm in #Donegal, an area that - you might expect - is very close to my heart. The Altan carbon credit generation project has the potential to be one of Ireland’s first peatland carbon sink projects, and could also be the first step in a business model of both generating and trading carbon credits that could be scaled up in the years and months ahead. Following the 2022 independent review of the Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCU) Scheme, the government has proposed key reforms based on 16 recommendations aimed at enhancing transparency and integrity—all accepted by the government. 🔍 Key Opportunity for Input: Recommendation 10 focuses on improving two critical landfill gas (LFG) methods: The Landfill Gas Method and the Landfill Gas (Generation) Method. The Landfill Methods Reform Options Paper seeks your feedback on crucial adjustments, including: Methane Proportion Measurements: Enhancing methane measurement techniques in landfill gas projects. Baseline Adjustments: Introducing new, upward-sloping baselines to foster continuous improvement. Crediting Periods: Revising crediting periods to balance project feasibility with environmental benefits. 💡 VBN Perspective: We have significant concerns that these changes may: Stifle innovation and increase methane emissions, risking the viability of landfill gas operations and future bioenergy projects. Decrease investment in critical biomethane and methane abatement technologies, potentially reducing ACCU supply by approximately 10 million ACCUs over 15 years. Oceans can help remove CO2 from the atmosphere through different pathways: micro- and macro-algae farming, ocean alkalinity enhancement, blue carbon restoration, etc. Our colleagues in SINTEF Ocean have built a seaweed farm on the coast of Trøndelag (Norway) to test large-scale kelp cultivation in real conditions. This infrastructure will be used in the NCS C project (https://lnkd.in/dmwYjWaB), to understand the potential of algae-based bioCCS to deliver negative emissions and at what cost. https://lnkd.in/gFXhUgy7 The Nyunga Families of the Gawler Ranges have given AiCarbon the green light in a landmark Community Benefits Agreement that launches a number of landscape carbon projects on pastoral stations across the northern Eyre Peninsula. Following the announcement, Chair of the Gawler Ranges Aboriginal Corporation, Dr John Binda Reid, said “the sharing of intelligence and benefits that emerge from this reciprocal arrangement can be an exemplar model that provides learnings to other Native Title groups to allow exploration and exploitation of resources to occur in their traditional lands”, Dr Reid stated. The enormous scale of the projects, involving the regeneration of native forest in areas totalling roughly 350,000ha, further cements AiCarbon as South Australia’s foremost carbon development firm and it effectively establishes carbon as a primary industry from which regional SA communities will benefit for decades to come.
