Clean water, sanitation, and hygiene education are basic necessities for a healthy environment and a productive life. When people have access to clean water and sanitation, waterborne diseases decrease, children stay healthier and attend school more regularly, and mothers can spend less time carrying water and more time helping their families. HANWASH (Haiti National Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Initiative) is a collaborative national initiative to provide safe, sustainable, and affordable water and sanitation to all the citizens of Haiti, along with the associated health, community and economic benefits. This initiative is led by Rotary International District 7020 and DINEPA (the Haitian Government’s National Directorate for Water Supply and Sanitation), along with other non-governmental organization (NGO) partners, such as Haiti Outreach. In 2010, the United Nations General Assembly recognized the human right to water and sanitation. In 2015, the United Nations declared 17 sustainable development goals (SDGs) for the world to achieve by the year 2030. SDG #6 is clean water and improved sanitation facilities for everyone in the world. HANWASH is committed to work to achieve that goal for the people of Haiti. #RCGCSunrise #RotaryDistrict7020 #RotaryInternational #CreateHopeInTheWorld

From this Sunday, SHF will be attending the 1st IWA Non-Sewered Sanitation (NSS) conference that will be held in Johannesburg, South Africa from 15 to 18 October. We will be engaging with partners and sector stakeholders in discussions around financing and innovations for non-sewered sanitation, which needs to be increasingly looked at to effectively tackle the world's sanitation crisis. Non-sewered sanitation solutions can offer accessibility, affordability, environmental sustainability, adaptability to local conditions, and its potential to address water scarcity while contributing to public health, economic growth and development, and resilience against natural disasters. It is a vital component of a comprehensive approach to sanitation, particularly in regions with diverse challenges and limited resources. With this in mind, SHF is looking forward to joining many of the interesting sessions and workshops including: - Bridging the funding gap for non-sewered sanitation: innovative revenue sources and contracting models - Innovative financing in unlocking the non-sewered sanitation pathway - AUSII - The new wheel to sanitation for all in Africa (presentation by our partner Water & Sanitation for the Urban Poor (WSUP) Eden Mati-Mwangi, PMP® - Progress on Establishing a Utility Sanitation Tariff in Kenya (presentation by our partner Water & Sanitation for the Urban Poor (WSUP), Eden Mati-Mwangi, PMP® Are you attending? Make sure to catch up with SHF's Anton Jantunen and join the sessions by SHF's Kenya partner Water & Sanitation for the Urban Poor (WSUP). #InternationalWaterAssociation #WSUP #sanitationeconomies #NSS2023

According to IRCWASH CEO Patrick Moriarty, a groundbreaking approach is needed to achieve the #SDG6 by 2030. “We need to see water and sanitation as a service. [...] We developed a blueprint for a WASH system in development countries and can offer this to the countries that participate in the Heads of State Initiatives. We already support countries we work in with implementing this systemic approach, and we will be happy to do so for the countries that join the Initiatives”. In collaboration with the Ministry of Water and Sanitation, today we held a high-level consultative dialogue with partners in the WASH sector on safely managed sanitation in Sierra Leone. The Water, Sanitation and Hygiene National Outcome Routine Mapping 2022 was also launched. This report reveals that only 18 per cent of the population have access to at least, one basic functional sanitation facility; 8 per cent have access to improved sanitation with handwashing facilities and 25 per cent have no latrines and are practicing #OpenDefecation. This report is therefore a valuable resource that provides vital data to stakeholders for strategic advocacy, engagement, planning and budgetary allocations to the WASH sector in Sierra Leone. #reimagine hygiene and sanitation #ForEveryChild

World Water Day Celebration: CARE's annual WASH Systems Award to USAID Hamzari WASH team in Niger For nearly six years, a collaboration between CARE, WaterAid, and DEMI-E, has strengthened the capacities of communal government and private operators, while developing essential new partnerships. Thanks to these efforts, more than 70,000 people now have better access to water and 22,000 people have access to basic sanitation in three communes of the Guidan Roumdji department - Chadakori, Guidan Roumdji, and Guidan Sori. Hamzari, a USAID-funded Resilient Food Security Activity (RFSA) (2018-2025), is a testament to the importance of multi-sector programs in improving food security, livelihoods, and resilience. These successes demonstrate the opportunity to link water security, food security, and water resource management for sustainable stability. Find out more about this remarkable work in our WASH 2024 Systems Award brief. #WorldWaterDay #RFSA #PartnershipForDevelopment

A new report for or the WHO/UNICEF Joint Monitoring Programme for Water Supply, Sanitation and Hygiene was recently published on World Water Day (March 22) recommending priority gender-specific indicators for WASH monitoring, which will will enable national and global monitoring bodies to identify gender and age inequities related to WASH, track changes over time, and provide national governments with the data needed to take action to address inequalities. The report is the result of work by dozens of global stakeholders, and lead by Rollins faculty Bethany Caruso, with support by Sheela Sinharoy, Madeleine Patrick and Nicole Stephan. https://lnkd.in/emZF4UNr
