Great to see pockets of the NHS starting to think about these processes so as to eliminate waste and improve efficiency in a way that private and cutting edge tech companies have been doing for decades. The pitstop analogy is more a mindset than anything else. If we ask the question “how can we do it” rather than “why can’t we” we have a chance. FloInsights has been driving efficiency and capacity in healthcare with its Capture platform for several years, achieving efficiency gains of 30% to 50% with the same resources. We believe that technology is the enabler to a more sustainable and wide ranging adoption of these “high intensity” approaches and will ultimately transform the way the NHS delivers care across multiple specialties and locations. Consistent and repeatable excellence needs to be monitored. You cannot always guarantee that you have the same skills and experience within your team, so real time monitoring with the FloInsights CAPTURE Platform is essential to maintain the real time intensity and structure of these new higher volume innovations. Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust completed a week’s worth of gynaecological surgeries in a single day! The trust reduced its elective surgery backlog by running two operating theatres side by side, using an innovative High Intensity Theatre (HIT) list to help treat patients more quickly. Kariem and Imran are the Consultant Anaesthetists who designed the programme at the trust. Explaining how HIT lists help to see more patients, they compare the HIT list to a Formula One pit stop. ‘They’ve got one person doing the rear right wheel, one person doing the front left wheel. It’s the same thing. The operating theatre is effectively like that. We’re not rushing, we’re being efficient. We delete any downtime and get rid of any time that the operating theatre does not have a patient in it being operated on. It’s all completely safe but in a day we’ll do two to three times more cases than we would routinely.’ Excellent work team. 💙

Our interim report, published today, makes a safety recommendation to NHS England and shares local-level learning for healthcare providers. This investigation explores the patient safety risk of unintended retention of surgical swabs after surgery. Our interim report analyses the findings of 31 NHS trust serious incident reports. The reference event involves a patient who underwent heart surgery. They had to return to theatre twice to remove surgical swabs that had been left in their chest, after the swabs were identified by X-ray. Healthcare providers can improve patient safety by using the findings of this interim report to consider potential challenges in their own systems and processes for unintentionally retained swabs following invasive procedures. Southern's surgical services include both elective and emergency surgery. If your GP or specialist needs to refer you for surgery, in most cases you have the ability to choose which hospital or service you go to. You can choose a hospital or service based on whatever matters most to you – this could include waiting times, quality of service, your previous experience, the opinions of other patients, the location or your GP’s recommendation. A choice of hospital or service is available to most patients and in most circumstances. If your GP or specialist thinks there is a clinical reason why you shouldn’t go somewhere else, they will tell you. Your GP will use Southern's Surgical Services Directory, available to them on HealthPathways, to find out what options are available locally, and help you decide what might be the best choice for you. Outpatient primary cleft palate surgery can indeed be a common practice in many U.S. hospitals. The higher rate of wound complications, along with lower rates of reoperation and readmission, may indicate that, in appropriately selected patients, outpatient palatoplasty can be performed safely and effectively. Patient selection and thorough pre-operative evaluation are crucial to ensure the procedure's success and the patient's well-being.

Passionate Transformation Catalyst | Inspiring Teams to Surpass Ambitious Targets in Pursuit of Excellence
Have you ever wondered about the impact of pre-analytical errors in healthcare diagnostics? It's astonishing to see how innovation is playing a crucial role in reducing these errors. However, the sad reality is that a significant portion of the population is still underserved, lacking access to even the most basic healthcare necessities. During my research trip to rural areas, I was stunned to learn that many people cannot afford vacuum blood collection tubes. We can take a step further by investing in local manufacturing facilities to produce high-quality PET vacuum tubes and other necessary consumables. Millions of people still rely on PP non-vacuum tubes, and we must make sure they have access to better options. We cannot continue to depend on imports for such basic healthcare essentials. This is just one example of the disparities in our healthcare diagnostics ecosystem. Together, we can make a significant difference by taking responsibility for driving initiatives for the end-users at the bottom of the pyramid. Let's not wait for the giant diagnostics companies to develop solutions here as they are already doing a phenomenal job for the elite user group. It's time for us to step up and make the change happen. Pre-analytical errors are a cost we cannot afford. So, let's start by correcting the basics. Great machines at a later stage will be of what use if the sample integrity is compromised during and after sample collection.
Track your phlebotomy sample from patient to laboratory. Did you know that up to 65% of errors happen in the pre-analytics phase of sample testing? With AlinIQ Preanalytics, powered by Indexor, blood samples are individually labelled and then scanned in at the surgery, removing the need to be rematched into individual bags. A case study of Indexor when used at the Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust, demonstrated a 98% reduction in sample booking-in time. Could your samples benefit from streamlined pre-analytics? Track your phlebotomy sample from patient to laboratory. A nice example of a solution that contribute to a sustainable healthcare where quality is improved by having full traceability of blood samples in the pre-analytical phase and where staff can focus on more important high skill tasks. #digitalhealthsolutions #PreAnalytics #Sustainability #sustainablehealthcare #indexor #workloadmanagement #greenlab
