I used to call myself a quitter. All through my 20’s, I struggled to fit into society’s expectations: - Study a 'reputable' degree… - Find a 'respectable' job and… - Climb the ladder and be grateful for a steady salary. I cared so much about what others thought I should be doing. So much so, I changed careers 3 times in 7 years. And ignored my inner voice that asked me to stay curious and patient. Worse, I convinced myself that there was something wrong with me. … I told myself I lacked focus … I had commitment issues  … I’m a failure The breaking point came when I thought I finally landed on something I really wanted to pursue - Branding. I applied to over 100 agencies. But because of my lack of experience in this field, not a single one accepted me. Imagine the defeat. ⭐ But it was that moment, I decided I’ve had enough. I’m not going to let myself get in my own way anymore. Want to learn about brands? Build one. So I joined a food tech startup. Later on, I even founded my own fashion startup. Those startup years gave me first hand experiences on how to build a brand from the ground up. And I loved it. Today, I run Prism Creative, a Branding agency for businesses that do good. And I realise how all my past experiences have come together to shape me into the empathetic, curious, knowledgeable business owner I am today. I have found my purpose and that is serving inspiring changemakers on their brave vision. Failures are only failures if you fail to learn from them. All I needed was more time to figure out who I am, and what impact I wanted to make. I am not a quitter. 🚀 So? What’s your story? What did you used to tell yourself that held you back? #entrepreneurship #growth #startup #womeninbusiness #purpose

Good on you Rosann. The journey into a brand strategy career is never easy, but that is also what makes it so worthwhile. When i started out, there were only a handful of brand strategy roles in Australia, certainly no junior roles, and no paved way to understand and learn more about it. I ended up having to move to the UK, and after scrapping around, learning on the go, flying blind, I harassed the people I most admired, learnt everything I could, tried to be valuable, and eventually found my place. Given today strategy is everywhere, paved paths are more abundant, and there is a huge community sharing how they work, I could lament that I had it tough in my early days. But, and this is my point I suppose, that tough seas make great sailors. Whilst it hasn’t been easy or expected, you haven’t quit, and you found your place. And it’s that tough journey that made you who you are. Enjoy the tough seas - and thanks for sharing. We also do work in the sustainable fashion space (with Redress) - we should have a chat!

Self limiting beliefs abound- often time, we are our own worst critic. Good to cheer ourselves on in the face of setbacks cos if we don’t cheer ourselves on, who will ?

Rosann Ling glad that you found the impact you want to make. On hindsight, what advice would you have have given your younger self to know when you are quitting too early ?

Very inspiring, Rosann Ling! We will only settle down and work hard when we found the true love (in this case, our career) of our life! I always tell my daughter to go after her own dreams. I know that even if I force her to go after prestigious jobs she doesn't like, she will eventually go back to pursue her own passion. We can be successful in life if we put our heart and efforts to do things we like well!

Your story is inspiring and I can resonate with some parts of it. There was a point in time where I held 4 jobs in 3 years and many had thought that I was a job hopper, including the closest people around me. It was one of those situations when you do not feel supported and well understood by others around you,
