I'm #westinghouseproud to have kicked off #nuclearscienceweek at the Women in Nuclear (WiN) 20th annual conference in Niagara Falls with so many inspiring and intelligent women (and men as well)! There was so much to learn during this conference but some of my key takeaways include: 1️⃣ Flexibility correlates positively with success of women in the workplace. Employers and managers who offer flexible hours, deliverable deadlines and an overall healthy work-life balance tend to have better female employee retention. 2️⃣ Gaining visibility is critical for women to accelerate their careers. Being more willing to state your opinion and speak up in meetings, taking initiative to ask for what you need and capitalizing on networking opportunities are key actions to make your excellence known. 3️⃣ Although there has been significant progress for diversifying employee profiles in nuclear organizations, there is still a significant gap in the proportion of women in leadership roles. It is important for organizations to develop effective mentorship programs and offer professional development opportunities to support women looking to take on such roles. I'm so proud to be a woman in this industry that has high DEI aspirations and can't wait to see how far we'll reach in the near future!

I'm here today at the Scottish Nuclear supply chain event and noticing again how we represent ourselves matters. For example, the language we use and what it really says... 'I'm not good at tech' from some people you really want to trust their expertise. For example the preparation and how it shows how much you care... when presentations are obviously relatively unknown to the presenter. For example, the visibility of diversity in the room and what that says to potential new diverse sector entrants to challenge the way forward... Trust, care, innovation. All super important in the future of nuclear. We have to make sure the #experience we give others matches to rhetoric. #representationmatters #communicationskills #softskillsfortoughjobs
