Roechling Industrial Mt. Pleasant is honored to have sponsored and attended the Summer Solstice Soirée last week. This event celebrated the life and legacy of Ashley Kertes. The Ashley Gongaware Kertes Fund was established to eliminate financial barriers for students in the Greensburg Salem School District. Funds raised will benefit the Greensburg Salem Education Foundation, supporting students' participation in after-school activities. This giving season, I want to feature my favorite program: MAKE THE MOVE TO SUPPORT LOCAL SCHOOLS 🍎 🚌 I donate $5,000 to your local Education Foundation when you buy or sell a home. I'm a long-time, active Foundation member. I know just how much our school districts rely on Foundation support to provide quality education. Funds raised provide additional teachers, specialists, programs, and tools that make our schools extraordinary places for learning. This benefits both homes values and school districts. A report by the National Bureau of Economic Research titled, “Using Market Valuation to Assess Public School Spending,” found that for every dollar spent on public schools in a community, home values increased by about $20. This increase directly translates to higher resale values. What is your favorite charitable organizations this season? In a class offered by the Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy students gain real-world experience by giving away $10,000 in grant funding. In the hands-on course “Learning by Giving”, students learn and implement the process of making charitable grants and giving wisely, from deciding which community issues to address and writing requests for grant proposals to conducting site visits at nonprofits, evaluating applications, and deciding where to award real money. As many of you know, I serve on the board for RMA Children's Foundation, a women run non-profit that raises funds for disadvantaged youth. As the back-to-school season approaches, we are on a mission to ensure that Denver Public School students starts the year with confidence and enthusiasm. You can be a crucial part of this journey by making a monetary donation to our 'Back-to-School Drive'! I set a goal to raise $500 towards our back to school drive this year. Your generous donations will directly fund brand-new backpacks and essential school supplies for these young minds. How you can make a difference: 1) Monetary Donations: Your financial support will be used to fill backpacks (donated by the Bank of Colorado) with school supplies, ensuring that each child is equipped for success from day one. Adams State University changes lives through access to high quality, affordable higher education. We are the state’s first HSI, and we are a majority minority institution. Furthermore, well over 50% of our students are first-gen. We serve the largest percentage of low-income students of any university in CO, and, according to the Chetty data, we do better than any other at moving those students up the income strata. For those who want to make a difference, donating is one way you can do just that: https://t.co/rlHlyu6Nw1

We often hear about how Andrew Carnegie and Cornelius Rockefeller changed philanthropy, but there are so many other people in our nation’s history that helped change the way we raise money and give charitable donations. In this episode, host Kevin Dean will present the untold stories of philanthropy through the years in the United States, from mutual aid societies of the 1700s to modern day. How does the first published book on philanthropy in the United States relate to the Salem Witch Trials? Why was Brown vs. Board of Education not considered a total victory by the NAACP? What does Ben Franklin have to do with matching gifts? Find out as we jump around in history to chronicle some people who changed philanthropy for good (and some for the not-so-good). https://lnkd.in/ghK9guuF
