More people are getting incandescent with rage about the vast amount of sewage being pumped into our waterways. And, rightly so! It’s an issue that needs to be urgently addressed. ⚠️ But how does sewage make its way into our waterways? Do you know much about combined sewer overflows? We explore the issue and answer these and other questions in our new article, ‘Combined sewer overflows, explained’. Turning a blind eye to the issue of sewage being pumped into our rivers and oceans is no longer an option. Besides being extremely harmful to people’s health, it also damages our ecosystems, wildlife, and biodiversity. Learn more about combined sewer overflows (CSOs) and how they make their way into our waterways in my recent article for Thames21. https://lnkd.in/dmcbkdvs

Don’t play games with your water and wastewater infrastructure. Water main breaks occur every two minutes in the United States, where we lose 2.5 trillion gallons of water annually due to pipe defects. Unaddressed water leaks can damage surrounding subsurface infrastructure, leading to even more dangerous problems such as sinkholes. Regain control of your water infrastructure by signing up for a complimentary Water & Sewer Damage Awareness Week safety talk. Combined sewer overflows: a uniquely British problem? The UK faces the greatest infrastructure challenge in Europe when it comes to CSOs: rainfall is higher than average (and rising year-on-year), it is densely populated and highly urbanised, and connection levels are higher than many of its peers on the continent. Crucially, it also has one of the highest proportions of combined sewers in Europe, after Poland and Belgium. GWI estimates it has around 440,000km of combined sewers, nearly double that of the next largest system, Italy (280,000km). Across Florida, over 2.6 million aging septic tanks are breaking down, leaking toxins that threaten environmental quality of life and contributing to algae blooms in the near-shore waters. Since much of Florida’s soil is not suitable for septic tank installation, essential collection and treatment functions are virtually impossible. That’s why E/One’s ALL-TERRAIN SEWER system has become the effective and economical solution of choice in septic tank abandonment and septic-to-sewer conversion programs across Florida — including the Florida Keys. See how we provided critical infrastructure with lower construction costs, fewer community disruptions, and minimal environmental impact here: https://lnkd.in/gPsDXkyE

Check out this video by SD1 │ Sanitation District No. 1 for an inside look into one of their wastewater treatment facilities!
We often take for granted the complex systems that keep our communities healthy and functioning smoothly. Wastewater treatment is one such system. That's why we're thrilled to share this original video by our very own Geof Ball, who pulls back the curtain on this critical process at our Eastern Regional Water Reclamation Facility. Video Link: https://lnkd.in/et5DZFwX A big thank you to Geof for sharing his expertise and passion in such an engaging way! Bonus ⭐️ Do you want to see the process up close?
